Top 20 Before & Afters of All Time: #13 A Ten Barn Farm Renovation

by Grace Bonney

The #13 spot on our Design*Sponge Top 20 Before & Afters countdown belongs to what is basically my dream farm home. Just across the river from our town sits the beautiful farming community of Ghent, New York. Ghent is home to Ten Barn Farm, a family farm with — you guessed it — 10 barns*. The working farm is run by Julie and Roby Harrington, who hired designer Meghan Valentine Gifford to help them transform the farm’s rustic goat barn into a home for their family.

What I loved so much about this home was the way Meghan was able to salvage and reuse so much of the building’s original barn wood. They used the building’s original hay loft door to create a headboard in the bedroom and gorgeous leftover hemlock beams and barn siding for everything from shelving to bunk beds. This tour is a beautiful celebration of antique barn charm, and I hope you’ll have as much fun reliving this tour as I did. xo, Grace

*The ten barns include: the original farmhouse from 1790, an enormous barn from 1789, a corn crib barn, a potting barn, a chicken coop barn, a garage barn, a garden and tractor barn, a smokehouse barn, a converted artist studio barn, an old outhouse barn, and lastly, the goat barn.
