Katrina Ralston remembers when her parents set out for a vacation to Europe back in the mid-1980s. At the time, her dad, Ernie Ralston, owned and operated their family’s business on the edge of the San Francisco Bay – a rigging shop (Feeney Wire Rope & Rigging) that handled heavy duty industrial rigging for tow trucks, bridges, cranes, aircraft carriers and over-head lifting ventures. Katrina, who is now the president of Sales/Finance/Operations/Marketing at that same family business – now known as Feeney – recalls her dad coming back from the trip with a big idea.
That big idea was to expand the family’s industrial rigging business to produce cable railing infill for interior and exterior applications. Ernie began experimenting with the marine cable and fittings he had in stock and transformed them into an architectural railing system with simple, clean lines. The result was CableRail, a durable, easy-to-install railing system that is not only functional and attractive, but also preserves the view – whether that’s the shoreline of a lake or ocean, a stunning mountain range, or a beautifully-landscaped backyard or garden.

Like the Ralston’s original rigging and wire rope business, their cable rail system has expanded over the years to include a slew of different applications along with accessories that complement every style of home (as you’ll see below). The company also offers the DesignRail® aluminum railing system, which provides even more design options.
The teak wood bannister on top of the CableRail system below lets the modern, clean-lined aesthetic of the building and surrounding pool landscape shine. Feeney offers DIY kits for purchase that you (or a professional) can install, as well as custom solutions.
