Top 20 Recipe Posts of All Time: #20 Matkonation’s Falafel

by Grace Bonney

I had a BLAST going through the archives of Kristina’s recipe column here at Design*Sponge. Both because Kristina is my forever family and her work has been an honor to publish here at DS and also because it seems like all of you have the exact same taste in food as we do! And by that I mean: you either want a tasty comfort food favorite (think cake and lasagna) or something super healthy and fresh (salads and light bites). I tend to swing to both extremes of the eating spectrum in this way, so it felt just about right to see decadent chocolate cakes listed right next to cucumber appetizers in this Top 20 Of All Time List.

This column originally began back in 2007 (one of our oldest columns!) with a sweet illustrated post about beets from designer Camilla Engman. Back in the day, Kristina would find all of the ingredients and test and photograph each recipe herself at home in her Roman kitchen. But these days Kristina has evolved the column to celebrate a diverse and richly talented mix of people, ranging from cookbook authors and food historians to up-and-coming bloggers and recipe testers. So what is the first recipe in our G.O.A.T. roundup? Hope you’re hungry, because it’s time for falafel! xo, Grace
