Since 2019 arrived, I’ve been slowly able to meditate on all of the possibilities the new year holds. The post-holiday fog tends to linger for me, so helpful doses of positive reinforcement and visual pick-me-ups really help me focus and pull me back into the essence of the moment. Realizing that we at Design*Sponge probably are not the only ones that need some reminders to be present and smile, we connected with our friends at Artifact Uprising to help create an inspired desk calendar filled with some timeless and colorful patterns from the one and only, William Morris. Artifact Uprising is kindly gifting their standout Walnut Desk calendar to 10 lucky Design*Sponge readers. Giveaway details are at the end of this post!
We’ve always been big fans (and customers) of Artifact Uprising because we’re always blown away by their beautiful, high-quality photo gifts. We love the many ways you can customize each piece to make it truly feel like your design. Through the years Design*Sponge has not only covered inspiring homes and up-and-comers in the design world, but we’ve also paid homage to icons of the past. This year, we’ve curated our 2019 calendar filled with patterns from William Morris, the 19th century British textile designer. His timeless patterns are closely associated with the Arts & Crafts movement and during his career, he created over 600 designs for wallpaper, textiles and embroideries.
The William Morris images we used are public domain and we’re including links to the images so you can create your own calendar with these lively patterns. But don’t limit yourself to our choices — think about what inspires you and scroll through your favorite photos pulled from your phone or Instagram, and create your own calendar customized with your photos to lead you through the year with a smile!
This post is brought to you in partnership with Artifact Uprising. All words are our own. Thank you for supporting our sponsors who help us bring you free, original content five days a week!
As we alluded to before, Artifact Uprising truly elevates inspired keepsakes. If photos of your family and friends makes you smile and remind you why you do what you do each day, have at it! It’s always a fun exercise to go through old photographs or pictures on your phone and rediscover those moments that tickle your heart. We love, love, love the small profile walnut clip-board of this calendar and the brass hardware really sets it apart from your average desktop object. “Turning” the pages of this calendar is a treat too — the deliciously thick paper reminds you to keep your scissors handy so you can pop the image into a frame or tack it to your cork board.
We interviewed Artifact Uprising’s co-founder Katie Thurmes back in 2015 and learned about how the company came to be. Katie, her sister and brother-in-law were professional photographers when they took a dive into the entrepreneurship pool and created the company. You can read the interview right here. High style and quality products were the goal from day one.
Each product at Artifact Uprising is a design-lover’s dream, with a simple, clean look and feel that looks beautiful in all environments no matter what the style. Beyond the walnut calendar we’re currently obsessed with, we especially love the Layflat Album with luxuriously thick pages and a foil-stamped cover. When the album is laid out, flat of course, your photos can span both pages for a great seamless effect. This is so perfect for special occasions or to finally commemorate that vacation from years ago with all those gorgeous sunset photos you saved!

We’ve ordered too many Artifact Uprising Every Day Prints to count because the textured matte finish makes each moment captured feel so special. If you haven’t seen or felt them, you’re in for a treat!
My favorite aspect about all of Artifact Uprising’s products and gifts is that they can all stand alone as décor pieces. The Walnut Desktop calendar absolutely falls into that category because once the year is finished, it can be continually used as a lovely framed piece of art. Brilliant.
