Day 1: Pattern Downloads by Marina Dunbar

by Caitlin Kelch

All this week, we’re featuring paintings-turned-pattern downloads (yes, the piece above is a painting!) by Marina Dunbar, an artist living and working in Charleston, South Carolina. Inspired by the colorful, tropical charm and history of the city where she’s a member of the shared creative space Redux, Marina uses techniques that involve the bending and manipulation of her surfaces. These motions guide the paint and reveal a resemblance to organic elements, as you can see in today’s pattern. You may remember our studio tour of Marina’s creative space — it’s housed in an old classroom filled with light and her bright artwork.

Thanks so much to Marina for sharing her work with us so we can brighten our devices with true works of art! You can download today’s pattern here (vertical) and here (horizontal). See you here tomorrow at 9am for our next installment. –Caitlin
