It’ll soon be a year since I started writing for Design*Sponge, and the same amount of time since I shifted from working in an office to mainly working from home. During this past year I’ve come to realize just how important our workspaces really are, and how much they can inspire the work that we do.

I’ve always been one to decorate my desk at work and make it my own, but there’s something extra special about creating a personal office space at home —  the options for creative and fun solutions are only limited to one’s own imagination. My current workspace is an antique secretary desk located in the hall of my one bedroom apartment. It has dents, scratches and signs of various artistic endeavors that punch up the charm factor.

Lately, I’ve been looking to add some art and lighting to make my little nook an even more inspiring place to work from. To get new ideas, I’ve browsed our archives for offices that feel both unique and surprising. These 12 cheerful workspaces are bound to get the creative juices flowing! Sofia

  • Wow! Interested in the little organizer on the floor in the top photo. Love the serene spaces…. good for concentration. I have to clean up my office a lot. I am a messy worker! I love art on walls. It makes such a personal statement.

  • WOW, I love seeing other’s creative spaces. It shows me that there is no right way to create a space. It’s up to us to find what will get our creative juices going. I love the dark blue wall of one, the art work covering most wall and some of the hanging light fixtures. Thank you for inspiring me as I get to work in our new home to decorate our den into something wonderful.

  • Having a work space that promotes creativity and free thinking is so important!! I’m not sure what the recipe is for creating that perfect space, but I imagine lots of natural light would be at least one important factor. I’m in the process of brainstorming design ideas for my home office in Bali, so this post has come at the perfect time.

  • I don’t blog full time, but having the right workspace to blog from is so important :) you know what they say, “a tidy home is a tidy mind”, well it’s true for desks/work spaces too :) x
