Sneak Peek: Best of Cats, Part II

Last week was all about the dogs, and I promised that Monday would be devoted to kitties. Don’t say I never did anything for you. Here are 35 kitties from the last two years of Sneak Peeks. Yes, 35 kitties and nary a cat bed in sight. Nothing but the human bed for these guys! Happy Monday! — Amy Azzarito

(If this isn’t quite enough for you, check out the first Sneak Peek: Best of Cats. And if you missed the puppies, check out: Sneak Peek: Best of Dogs, Part I and Part II.)

Image above: That mountain goat head actually isn’t taxidermy at all but something that Ariel created using foam and vintage rabbit fur. (See the full home tour here: Sneak Peek: Ariele Alasko and Isaiah Palmer.)

Image above: Magda is playing on the bed in her Brooklyn home. (See the full home tour here: Sneak Peek: Adrienne Antonson of State.)

Image above: This very masculine kitty answers to many names — Pet, Mister, Softee, Luxembourg, White Cat. (See the full home tour here: Sneak Peek: Kelli Anderson and Daniel Dunnam.)

Sneak Peek: Jenny Brandt (Dos Family) & Jens Gronberg

Over the summer I was lucky enough to meet Swede Jenny Brandt at Blog’nhagen in Copenhagen. I got a taste of her colorful, fun side that day through her delightful blog, Dos Family, a quirky and family-friendly collaboration with Isabelle McAllister. I’ve since become addicted to her Instagram, which always puts a smile on my face. Jenny lives in Ystad, Sweden, with her husband, Jens Grönberg, and their two kids, Viola and Frank. Jens is an illustrator and graphic designer, and Jenny is the photographer of the duo. They both work from home and run a webshop called Sammy Rose in addition to their own projects. I love Jenny’s approach to decorating: “I don’t really think much. It really just happens. And ‘far from perfect’ is perfect to me.” There are also some decorating tips tucked into the comments, so don’t miss those! Thanks, Jenny and Jens! — Anne

Image above: Our world map with my purple table painted with car paint by my father, who has an auto body [paint] shop. My father always mixes the color from leftover paint he has in his shop. The lamp and chairs are vintage. I bought a bunch of mixed candle holders at flea markets and spray painted them.

Image above: Kitchen cabinets are second hand and were painted pink by my sweet father. He has painted so many furniture pieces for me over the years. He is the nicest. Also this reminds me of my best decorating tip for home-oriented people: Get to know a car painter. Changing the color on your furniture instead of buying new is a great tip.

Sneak Peek: Jon & Nina Hans

When decorating their downtown Los Angeles loft, Jon and Nina Hans decided to channel mid-century Hawaii. They are both from the islands and grew up surfing and running through jungles. Luckily, they live right down the street from the Flower District, so it’s easy to keep their home filled with plants and flowers. Nina is an art director and designer, so she’s experienced in creating visual environments. This is a particularly special home for the couple because they moved in just after their wedding a year ago. They were so excited to decorate their first home together as husband and wife that they spent the first several weekends searching local thrift stores, the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market and Craigslist to find great deals and unique pieces. Thanks, Jon and Nina! And a big thanks to Casey Curry and Nina for the lovely photos! — Amy Azzarito

Image above: This is my little at-home desk. I found the chair at a little furniture store here in LA called Revival, and I’m obsessed with it! It came already upholstered in that fabric, I couldn’t believe it; it’s like it was made for me. I also love the vase on my desk by Brett Freund. I’m such a huge fan of his work!

Image above: Our living room is such a fun place to host parties; Jon loves to make cocktails at the bar, and in the winter we always have a fire going. When we got married, our friends all got together and chipped in to get us this super nice projector for our wedding present. So now we often host movie nights — we roll down the blinds and project right onto the walls. It’s the gift that keeps on giving! The white porcelain dear head we got as a wedding gift, as well. It’s from Z Gallerie. We went ahead and put it on our registry before we’d really figured out what vibe we were going for in our new place. Sometimes I feel like he’s a little off for the jungle theme, so I like to throw a lei on him to make him fit in better.

Human/House/Harvey: Green

Human House Harvey, greenMy favorite color is green — always has been and probably always will be. When I was a kid, I wanted everything in green: pens, lollipops, clothes, my bedroom walls. As I’ve grown, my love for the color has slowly transformed into a love of nature and all that is fresh and alive around us. Now I surround myself with succulents, green leaf wreathes and the occasional bling of an emerald jewel — it is my birthstone, after all. So today, to pay homage to a fabulous color and the upcoming holiday that celebrates it (St. Patty’s Day), I thought I would round up other wonderful green-hued items for myself, my home and my pup, Mr. Harvey. — Stephanie

HUMAN — Since green is my favorite color, I thought it was only appropriate to pick two items for myself. You can never have enough green in your life, and I just LOVE these green suede boots and camper backpack. Now if only I had a little more green in my wallet to buy them both…

HOUSE — This is my theory on clocks: the bigger they are and the more there are, the better. Whether it is my obsession with time or just a love of symmetry, I love having several clocks adorning the walls of my home. This mint green one would look amazing in a kitchen or entryway.

HARVEY — It’s just not a celebration without a dog bow tie, am I right? My Mr. Harvey has donned a few in his day, but we may need one more to get the St. Patty’s Day festivities going, and this one is just right!

Royal Botanicals

Ariel Dearie designs some of the most beautiful flower arrangements in Brooklyn. So it was no surprise that when she decided to expand into natural beauty products, they would be just as beautiful. Ariel recently debuted a line of bath and beauty products inspired by floral and other natural elements. The first product is a Botanical Bath Soak in three scents: Original (ylang-ylang, bergamot and spruce), Vetiver and Rose Geranium. Each one is made in small batches with Dead Sea salts and essential oils and packaged in gorgeous amber bottles. I love anything that inspires me to slow down, take a bath and relax before bed, so these are definitely going on my wishlist. Click here to check them out in more detail and order a bottle ($45 each). xo, grace

Milkhaus Design

For the past few weeks I’ve been trying to re-commit myself to a healthier eating plan. In addition to cutting out carbs and processed foods, I’m cutting coffee and switching back to peppermint tea. I sorely miss my morning coffee, so I’ve been trying to create a new morning routine that will distract me from missing the old one. One of the things I treated myself to was a new set of tea towels/napkins that make the tea process feel like a more substantial ritual. I’m on the hunt for a little tray that I can use for the teapot and cup now, but so far the pretty napkins have been a nice way to start the day with tea and breakfast. During my hunt for napkins I came across these bold graphic options (which are technically tea towels, but I’d use them as folded napkins) from Milkhaus Design and bookmarked them for later. I love the simple color palette — they’d be perfect for a simple dinner at home or a nice dinner party in. Click here to check out the full selection and style range and to shop online (each towel is 17” x 25” and 100% linen). xo, grace
