As a Canada novice, my first Vancouver experience will definitely bring me back to the Great North. Not only is the city impeccably clean and beautifully designed, but the people are some of the most generous and genuinely kind in North America. And while this metropolitan city is probably best known for its recent gig as host to the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, Vancouver hosts many innovative events, including the One of a Kind Show, the PuSH International Performing Arts Festival and most recently, the Interior Design Show West (IDS West). I was lucky enough to be invited to the IDS West Conference this year, and I am excited to share with you some of the great things I saw. — Stephanie

tool & tack pop-up shop

Sadly, I have yet to visit the state of Texas; if there were ever a time to plan a trip, this is it! Some of our dear friends — including our very own DIY expert Matt Pierce — are collaborating on this incredibly awesome-looking gentleman’s pop-up shop called Tool & Tack, which will happen this Saturday, October 15th at Gray Duck Gallery in Austin. According to Natalie Davis and Ben Runkle, the duo behind Canoe and hosts of the event, Tool & Tack will feature a highly curated selection of hand-tooled leather goods, heritage American clothing, handmade bow ties and waxed canvas bags, plus a dang good time. If you’re within walking, biking, driving or any other kind of traveling distance, you should definitely check it out! — Kate

Good morning guys! Before we start with regular posts today I wanted to take a quick second to say how excited I am to be joining the DIY Business Association Conference taking place next month in Brooklyn. The conference was founded by an amazing group of people dedicated to empowering and educating creative small business owners and self-employed/freelancers. I’m going to be part of a panel called “Gurus of Communication and Content” but there are a slew of exciting panels with people from organizations like Etsy, Pitchfork, Modcloth, The Huffington Post, eMusic, Seth Godin’s Domino Project, RollingStone.com and many more. I hope you’ll join all of us in Brooklyn for the conference on Sunday, June 26th, 2011. See you there! xo, grace

The Charm City Craft Mafia Presents the Second Annual ‘Pile of Craft’
Craft Fair

Baltimore – Pile of Craft is a juried indie craft fair brought to you by
Baltimore’s CHARM CITY CRAFT MAFIA. Join the mafia for their second annual
summer event on Saturday, June 21st from 10am to 5pm at St. John’s Church,
located at 2640 St. Paul St, Baltimore, MD 21218. This event is free and
open to the public.

This year’s Pile of Craft will feature two rooms full of crafts from over
40 vendors, including Bake Sale Designs, Cotton Monster, Red Prairie
Press, It Knits, Kiss My Crafts, Pink Kiss Pottery, Spaghetti Kiss
Productions, and many more! Music will be provided by Sleepy Records.
Members of the Mafia will be raffling off their one-of-a-kind items to
shoppers throughout the day.

The Charm City Craft Mafia is an organization that promotes independent
artists, designers, craftspeople, and businesses in the Baltimore region.
Our collective of artists is committed to educating the greater community
through the sharing of our skills and knowledge. In this vein, we support

We’ll be hosting a sidewalk sale/trunk show with three participating designers: Dear Birthday, Popomomo, and SDN. Featuring a sneak peak at fall 08 designs, current season pieces, and sale items from past seasons! all three designers will be on hand to chat and help you with fit.
