Our Autumn Picks on EBTH

by Grace Bonney

When autumn rolls around, I find myself drawn to the warm, worn patinas of antique furniture, aged wood and rugs with deep reds and browns. Today we’re partnering with EBTH — an online estate sale site that literally offers “Everything But The House” to share some of our favorite pieces for fall. When we first discovered EBTH we went on a major search-a-thon on their site for all sorts of one-of-a-kind and vintage pieces like these botanical prints.

Our fall picks for today have texture and rich colors that can help add some warmth to our homes when the temperatures outside start to dip. And if reds and browns aren’t your thing, we found a few great pink pieces, too. Visit our boutique on EBTH here. I hope you’ll enjoy these pieces as much as I do. xo, grace

Warm Wood & Red

Available on EBTH now: 1. Settee | 2. Chest | 3. Rug | 4. Rocker

Writer Rumaan Alam and photographer David Land live in the Crown Heights neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY and their entryway (above) is filled with rich and welcoming wood tones.

EBTH works like this — you bid on the items like you would on eBay and you receive email notifications if you win the auction or if you got outbid. You can search by what’s ending the soonest, by most popular, by city, or your own custom search term like “brass” or “pink” (in my case!). When pieces are listed with those keywords, you’ll be notified. Items can be shipped and you can calculate shipping costs before you bid. Larger pieces have hefty shipping fees that can often be more expensive than the item itself, but if you’re in love with a piece, it will most likely be less expensive, even with shipping charges, than the price you’d pay buying it from a reputable dealer in a larger market like NY or LA.

Our absolutely favorite thing about EBTH is every piece starts at $1.

  • I want to love this site, but every review I’m reading about EBTH seems very bad and repetitive. Have you used this platform yourself? What was your experience with buying/shipping?

I’ve found two things I’d love to bid on but I’d love to hear how its work for people first.

    • Hi Andrew

I’ve used the site and purchased 5 things, including a couch. All of the smaller items (pendant light, vase, etc.) were under $20 and the most expensively charge was $18 for the light. All well packed and delivered quickly.

The couch was available for free pick-up in D.C. so I drove an hour to pick it up.

I’ve only had good experiences, but I do think the trick (like any Craig’s List shopping/saved searches) is to keep an eye on fairly close-by sales for larger items and furnishings to avoid shipping costs over $50.

    • I have purchased from EBTH, but have only done local pickup thus far. The purchase, payment processing, and pick-up was all very easy and I was VERY pleased with the condition of my vintage Bertoia chair. Based on this experience, I would explore items that require shipment and more local pickup. (pickup was done in Columbus, OH)

  • It let me sign up as a Canadian, but it doesn’t seem to ship to Canada or include any Canadian listings. That’s disappointing because it seems lovely.
