15 Velvet Sofas To Inspire Your Next Upholstery Project

by Grace Bonney

Velvet sofas are the ultimate luxury in my book. Soft, cozy and with so much depth and texture, these plush pieces of furniture make any room feel instantly warm. I’ve never taken the leap and upholstered a piece of our furniture in velvet, but it’s always on my to-do list and next winter I might need give it a try. Cozying up on a velvet sofa with a good book and some hot tea is the most comforting feeling. Until that day, here are some of my favorite velvet sofas from home tours past. xo, grace

(Second from top) Skye and Jeremy’s orange velvet sofa adds a bright splash of color in their Crown Heights home (another angle after the jump!).

Jordan Ferney’s emerald green velvet sofa is such a nice, modern spin on velvet upholstery.

This deep pink velvet sofa adds a major dose of energy and color to this Philadelphia loft.

These next two examples are more chairs and settees than sofas, but they’re too lovely not to include. Morgan Satterfield’s BRIGHT orange lounge chair is such a bright and exciting contrast against the rest of her home’s more neutral palette.

This velvet chair that Allison shared on Instagram has been in the back of my mind for weeks. It’s my ideal dreamy Creamsicle color.

I’m loving the 70s vibe of this brown velvet sofa against these clean modern natural wood pieces.

Amy’s grey-blue velvet sofa was one of my original inspirations for a velvet sofa.

This has to be one of the cutest sectional sofas I’ve ever seen. The pale pink (would this qualify as #MillenialPink?) in velvet form is so sweet. Photo by @PaisleyandJade

The electric yellow velvet sofa in this Atlanta home feels fresh and contemporary against the more traditional style of the home.

This inviting pink velvet sofa in Karen’s Manchester home feels like the perfect spot for a nap.

This deep emerald green sofa at Bemz is such an incredible color.

Roland Bello’s orange velvet sofa is the most welcoming nap spot I’ve ever seen. This looks like the perfect place to settle in with a good book.

This velvet sofa from BoConcept is such a great example of how velvet upholstery can feel modern and cool.
