A multidisciplinary company mastering floral design, event design and styling, Munster Rose started as a side business out of Jackie Reisenauer’s home in Minneapolis, MN. Jackie and her mother, Barb, quickly outgrew Jackie’s home and also needed help with the high demand of their services. So nine months ago, Munster Rose moved into this St. Paul, MN studio and added designers Jessica Sequeira and Kelsey Knight to the mix. The ladies at Munster Rose had high standards for their workspace, and this studio has proven to meet all of their needs.
Jackie and Barb’s young company needed a studio with ample work space, a private area to meet with clients away from the mess of floral arranging, a place to store props, and a place to keep flowers chilled. They have had to make some adjustments to the studio to allow it to function well for them, but it is becoming everything they could ever want. “We’re design-minded people in a design-minded industry. We wanted to create a space we, and our clients, found inspiring. [Our goal was] a studio that felt like a home to great ideas,” Jackie says. “We slowly decked the space out with pieces we really, truly love. Whether that’s custom artwork or what have you. In retrospect, it made more sense to do it this way – accumulate pieces over time as we began to understand how we move and flow within the space.” The result is a studio that isn’t just functional, but also an inspiring place to both work and design.
The giant windows, open floor plan and high ceilings are the architectural elements that make this studio a showstopper. The pieces that the Munster Rose team has added have brought even more personality into the space. They have everything they need with a walk-in floral cooler, work space, consulting space and even a nursery so Jackie’s son, River, can be near while his mom works. All in all, the minimal yet lush design fits their brand well — a combination sure to garner and accommodate more floral-loving clients. –Lauren
The windows in the century-old building are what sold them immediately on the studio space. Jackie and the Munster Rose team have kept the furniture in the workspace bright and unobtrusive in the large room.
"Look through the palm tree for a peek at my desk. When you have such high ceilings, huge floor plants are a must. That wonderful green will get you through our bleak Minnesota winters," Jackie says.
"Our gallery wall is one of my favorite parts of our space. We’re constantly adding to it and changing out pieces based on the season. This can be seen through the glass wall that separates our office and consultation room. Right now, it also showcases one of our prints from our collaboration with Cait Courneya. This was the first product in our new venture - an online webshop featuring products we hope can make life more local, more handmade," Jackie says.
"We use the entire thing as our workspace, but have visual/mental dividers that separate each area from another. The quality of light made this space so irresistible," Jackie says.
"These vases are part of a collaboration we’re doing with local potter, Doug Trott from Prairie Garden Farm. We shot the collection of vases in this space," Jackie says.
"We use this part of our space for photo shoots. The lighting is perfect and the large white wall is a great natural backdrop. I also use it while instructing during our floral workshops," Jackie says.
"Our studio is part of a century-old campus that has been home to a mattress factory, a service repair shop, and many other businesses over the years. The Munster Rose space was renovated in 2014-2015. The building itself is still undergoing renovation," Jackie says.
"I needed a space for my baby - who I knew would be part of my floral life, often coming to work with me. He’s not here every day. But when he is here, it’s so nice to have a space designated for him. I’m very lucky," Jackie says.
"This is the area [where] we meet with clients. I love it because of our giant glass wall. It lets the light in, while separating our meeting space from our (often messy) workspace," Jackie says.
"This little nook greets guests when they first enter Munster Rose," Jackie says. "Hang up your coat and take a peek at artwork from our friend (and neighbor) Hackwith Design House."
"This comfy vignette, decorated with pieces from many of our favorite local shops, softens up our studio space. It also spotlights our artwork-turned-print-collaboration with Minneapolis artist Cait Courneya," Jackie says.
One of the challenges Munster Rose faced when they moved into a space was how to store their inventory of vases while keeping them accessible. Their baker's racks have become the solution for now, allowing the pieces to stay in sight and within reach.
