Location can really drive a home’s style. A home in Minnesota can be beachy and gorgeous in aesthetic, but there is something so right about bohemian homes located in tropical places. Carley and Jonathan Summers have fully embraced their southern Florida lifestyle and have created a space with an eclectic mix of global finds and seaside pieces.
Carley, photographer and interior stylist, and her husband Jonathan, CT technologist and musician, initially set out to find a home with historic value. Their 1922 West Palm Beach, FL rental came with incredible character, natural light, a historical neighborhood, and a serene sunroom that sold Carley and Jonathan on the house. The beach town location is the perfect setting for Carley’s breezy, bohemian style. She has filled the home with rich textures, colors, and beautiful pieces that she has collected from across the world.
Carley and Jonathan have sentiment and stories behind almost every item in their home, which makes the space instantly feel more intimate. “My decorating goal is for people to come in and feel a spirit of peace and rest, even though there is so much going on,” Carley says. “There is always something to look at and there is usually a story with each piece. I am all about the layers. The process of the home is more about how I can layer textiles and bring a natural peace to the home by the design aesthetic.” Enjoy their stories in every beautiful room as you click through this tour. –Lauren
Carley and Jonathan's home is layered so beautifully with different materials, textures and stories from time spent traveling. Carley has brought even more vibrance into their lovely, bright sunroom.
"This is my favorite room in the house. This is where I pray and recollect myself. I love how cozy it is and that it is my own version of [a] green house," Carley says.
The character and charm of the 1922 home adds so much to the Summers' style. The brick fireplace, large windows and French doors are gorgeous complements to the eclectic aesthetic.
"This is a thrifted chair and one of my favorites," Carley says. "The cushion is a vintage Turkish saddlebag that was gifted to me. It just so happens to fit in the chair perfectly."
"This is my favorite chair that I found on Craigslist. I drove four hours there and back to get this chair. It is the exact replica [of one] my grandaddy had in his house when I was growing up. He also was a mid-century modern furniture designer, so he has given me a lot of inspiration."
Carley and Jonathan's travels have given their home pieces from all over the world. "The couch is a simple slip cover couch with African mud cloth over top and a mix of Turkish and Moroccan pillows. One of my favorite parts are the handmade maps made by my little brother," Carley says.
Carley and Jonathan's dining room is bright and inviting. Carley designed their dining table, and made it round to create community between those sitting there together.
"I love putting plants in unordinary planters and I love this picture of my grandparents' wedding. I bought this cabinet chest for $25 and replaced the knobs," Carley says.
"Our table was handmade and it has our wedding scripture carved around the edges. The Turkish kilim under the table is over 200 years old and one of my favorite pieces."
Even the kitchen has been curated with pieces from Turkey and Morocco. "I love the Turkish window valence, it's something I had never seen [before]," Carley says. "I really love the wine rack installed, but because we don't drink, it's filled with different sparkling waters."
"I love collecting little trinkets from trips and these little bowls are from my recent trip to Morocco, and the antique blue bottle is from a fun antique shop in NYC. The little mug on the right is my favorite because it was made by my most favorite art professor from art school," Carley says.
Carley and Jonathan's recent trip to Morocco has been incorporated into their bedroom's design, too. Their vintage Moroccan wedding blanket and vintage Moroccan pillows are the features of their space. The space is restful while still maintaining the home's global personality.
The guest room is a blend of pieces from their travels to Africa and the Middle East. "This room is a mixture of so many different cultural textiles. I want our guests to enter and feel a magical presence," Carley says.
Carley and Jonathan's cat Ariel has her spot in the guest room. Carley says, "The kitties are part of what brings our home to life, and they are like my kids."
I just love everything about this home tour. All those colors, patterns, and textures really pop against the light walls and airy windows. If I were a guest in that guest room I might never leave!

I’ve followed Carley on Instagram for some time now (it goes without saying that her IG is divine), and I’m so excited to see her complete tour here! This is an absolutely gorgeous space, and I love the personal items throughout the rooms. It’s clear that this is a much cherished home.
I’d love to know more about those lovely curtains in the dining area.

Thanks so much! A lot of love goes into this place :)
What a feast for the eyes! A beautiful home, I immediately shared this with my mum and sisters – we all loved it.
The wedding scripture is such a nice touch.
Carly, how can I find you on Instagram? Your home is pure perfection! <3
Carly, wonderful Moroccan design! And the eclectic touches make it so special. Inspirational. You must be a Proverbs 31 woman of valor. I love the idea of incorporating the scripture into the table. I may be confused, but is it possible the numbers are inverted? Should it be Psalms 126:3 instead of 123:6?
Wonderful, I really love this tour! I’ll have it as an inspiration to my new home soon in the future! =)
I love this place so much… This is so inspiring. Great place, great photos, made with love.
I just love the look of this lounge room. I even have some of the same pillows! Can you tell me where the coffee table is from?
Where is the coffee table from?
Did you ever get a reply?
I’m pretty sure I used to own those little copper canisters for coffee, tea, etc. I wonder if Carley bought them at a shop called Nest in Delray Beach. If so, I donated them!
I’d love to know where the navy blue throw is from on the white bed?
oh me too, that’s a beautiful throw where could I find a similar or the same one?
me as well! id love something like that in my room!
the tassels hanging in the window??? anyone know how to find them?

Carley and Jonathan…your home is gorgeous! amazing! unbelievable! I totally agree with everyone’s comments. I too would never want to leave if I lived there! Love all the bright colors and the pieces from your world travels. Living in this home must be like being on vacation all the time!!
