Yesterday Max and Amy joined me on the radio and we decided to check out The Dover Street Market after we recorded. So we hopped in a cab and headed to Lexington and 30th street to visit the beautifully designed space created by designer Rei Kawakubo. The market is seven floors full of cutting-edge fashion with a bit of art, homegoods and accessories thrown in for good measure. We originally decided to visit in order to check out the famed Rose Bakery that lives on The Dover Street Market’s first floor, but ended up loving the Comme des Garcons floor most of all because of the creative yarn, wood and faux-marble installations. The entire space feels a bit like a modern art exhibit, filled with a mix of high-end clothing and accessories and a hodge-podge of found object displays. While their super-fast clear elevator left us a bit queasy (we were told this was actually the slowed down version of the elevator- yikes!), the displays and clothing were so exciting that it was definitely worth the visit. If you’re in town, I definitely suggest swinging by to check out the space – be sure to look up, down and all around- there are tiny design surprises in every nook and cranny. xo, grace
