Make Your Own: Valentine’s Day Flower Arrangement

by Grace Bonney

DesignSponge DIY Flowers
Amy and I were talking about Valentine’s Day this year and came to the same conclusion: we can’t stand advertisements that make it seem as if people have to “wait” for someone to give them the perfect gift. From flowers and chocolate to jewelry and sweet cards, ads and tv shows make it seem as though everyone sits around hoping the perfect person will hand them the gift they’ve always wanted. But we decide that our beloved do-it-youself community’s spirit was never more applicable than for this holiday. There’s nothing wrong with someone giving you a beautiful gift, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with making it yourself. So this week and next, we’ll be sharing quick and easy ways to make gifts, from chocolate to flowers, that you can both enjoy and make yourself. Today we’re kicking things off with a simple but beautiful arrangement from Lisa Przystup of James’ Daughter Flowers in Brooklyn. Lisa’s work is beautiful and lush and is a good reminder that a simple tape grid and a good base flower can create something truly special. Thanks so much to Lisa for sharing this with us and for sharing a mini studio/apartment tour with us, too (after the jump!). xo, grace

Suggested For You

  • I wish I had more time to plant and grow flowers to make arrangements for around the house. I myself love the smell of fresh cut flowers. I think it’s easiest for me to just stop by the road side and pick an arrangement for my wife from time to time. Especially since I live in the Tennessee countryside. The assortment of flowers that grow around here is crazy. And since we handcraft macrame plant hangers ALL the time it’s always nice when we can hang a new one around the house and replace the flowers I pick. Kayla likes it at least. 8)

  • I’m currently living in a place I do not enjoy, I have to work extra hard at keeping myself happy until I can make some changes in my life and move closer to family. One of the things I do is buy myself flowers every week. I’ve come to calling them my #cheermeupflowers. This quick guide and beautiful photographs are great inspiration to try something new! Thanks for the quick tips!
