Biz Ladies: 7 Simple Ways to Spruce Up Your Brand This Year

This time of year, most of us get antsy for a change – a new look for our brand and website and new goals for the year. But rebranding can be costly and time consuming, and if your business model hasn’t changed, it’s not usually necessary.

Lucky for us, there are ways to spruce things up without shelling out a bunch of money. Here are seven ways you can update your brand without breaking the bank.

1. Redesign Your Website Header

A new website header may be just the change you’re longing for – many businesses change their website header on a weekly, monthly or quarterly basis to keep things fresh and updated. Hire a designer to come up with a few new looks for you to use on your own site so you don’t get bored with your branding.

2. Take New Photos for Your Website

Having new pictures taken for your site and social media profiles is another great way to freshen up your brand. Hire a photographer to take photos of you in your favorite places and you’ll be all set with new ‘About Page’ worthy images for your site and Facebook profile.

3. Redesign Your Facebook Graphics

You can quickly spruce up your brand with a new Facebook cover photo, profile picture graphic and button graphics. Changing up your social media profiles will show up in your fans’ feed and will give your page a whole new look. Want to reach a few new people? Try boosting one of your Facebook posts or doing a Facebook ad – just $5 a day will bring you some new fans and followers.

4. Clean Up Your Website

One great way upgrade and simplify this year is to clean up your website. Declutter your sidebars, design all of your graphics and buttons so they are uniform and remember – white space on your website can be a good thing. Your site will feel less clunky, and your visitors will less likely be distracted by links to other websites and unnecessary information.

5. Update Your Offerings

For a fresh start this year, update your product and service offerings. Take down or tweak the ones that haven’t made you money, and add in something new you’ve been dying to try. Only sharing the offerings you want will make you even more excited to get to work each morning.

6. Start a New Column on Your Blog

Another simple way to shake things up is to start a new column on your blog. Whether it’s words of wisdom on Wednesdays or themed posts on Thursdays, a new column will give you a particular topic to write about each week and can be the perfect thing to add when you’re looking to add something new to your business.

7. Design New Business Cards

If you’re dying for to get more creative this year, design some fun new business cards that you’re excited to hand out. Think outside of the box and go with something innovative for your field of work. Not only will you want to give them to everyone you meet, your new card design may land you some new clients and customers.

Freshening your brand doesn’t have to be extravagant and expensive. These little tweaks can give your brand a whole new look and feel.

These are all excellent ideas, thank-you. I especially love the one about putting photographs of places on your website, which I never would have thought of. My tea towels are designed and printed in Dublin, Ireland but they don’t look traditionally Irish (they look more MCM or Scandinavian) so I’m always looking for small ways to flag their Irishness and a photograph or two of Dublin on my website would be a great way to do that.

Another thing I am definitely going to do is get that William Morris “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful” quote put on the back of my next lot of business cards. I decided against it originally because I thought it was a bit overused, but it perfectly applies to my tea towels which are very much intended to be both beautiful and useful.

Thank you! Good ideas. My business is to sell beautiful, sustainable things for the home, so for 2014 I have decided to post one new one-of-a-kind item to the site every day. It’s a fun way to stay inspired, and keep my visitors coming back.

This is a very useful and practical list…another win for Biz Ladies :). Refreshing our slideshow on our website has proved to be a winner in updating our toy shop’s look. I also like the suggestion of starting a new blog column. Will keep that one in mind!
