A Day In The Life

A Day In The Life of Clare Vivier

by Grace Bonney

I know it’s not good to covet things, but there are always a few things on my list I can’t resist yearning to own. One is a striped blanket from Steven Alan, the other is a tabletop from Arielle Alasko and the third is just about any bag Clare Vivier designs. Originally from Minnesota, Clare spent years working in France and now lives in Los Angeles, where she blends classic French sensibilities with sunny LA style. I’ve always wanted to get to know more about the woman behind the bags, so it’s a thrill to get a peek inside her day-to-day life today. Thanks so much to Clare and her team for sharing this Day In The Life with us. xo, grace

I’m never very happy when my alarm goes off at 6:30, as you can see, but at least my Sleepy Jones jammies are a high point.

For the last couple of years I’ve been going to see my trainer, Micah, at 7 a.m. three days a week in Silverlake. He tortures me with all sorts of squats and weights – but let’s be real, I do not do anything with this heavy weight in front of me. I love the graphic lettering of the barbell, though.

It’s always a pleasure to walk into the studio every morning to the Hadley Holiday in our entry, our community Shinola bike and (on a good day) flowers from Holly Flora.

I truly am a bag lady coming into work everyday – I carry this many on any given day.

Again, on lucky days I get to have flowers from Holly Flora, but my desk area is always a hive of swatches, papers, artwork, letters, etc.

It’s always exciting when a new season of bags comes into the studio – these Adam duffles are for Spring and are shipping to Bird in Williamsburg.

Ori is our in-house expert monogrammer – hard at work.

These Simple Totes lining our “community room” wall are soon to be shipping to stores. I’m loving the mirrored one.

I love it when our graphic designer, Lizzie, is doing hand lettering with black India ink – these random scraps of paper are found all over our office.

Interior of our store: I stopped by our store in Silverlake while my son was at piano lessons at the conservatory.

New Spring clutches at store

Fantastic LA sky outside the shop – pink clouds, power lines, palm trees and lots of promise.
