Swift and Roe

by Grace Bonney

I love finding out about artists via other artists I already admire. So when Sara Jensen sent me a link to Swift & Roe, I was already pretty sure I was going to love this work. Swift & Roe is the work of Amsterdam-based artist Riley Salyards. After graduating with a theater degree from Carnegie Mellon and studying Fashion and Costume Design at The Art Institute of California, Riley worked as an actress, puppeteer, director and now- a ceramics artist. Her current collection on Etsy is a celebration of blue and white bowls and plates that would be perfect for storing jewelry, odds & ends or serving snacks (they’re food safe, but not recommended for foods that might stain). I’d love to display a trio of these on an entryway table for keys and small items, but they’re also pretty enough to stand on their own. The swirled glazes are stunning. You can check out Riley’s full collection right here on Etsy, prices range from $50-$330. xo, grace
