boucherouite rugs at beldi

I have a very vivid picture of what my life, wardrobe and home will look like when I’m an older woman. It will clearly involve about a dozen cats, I’ll learn to embrace white hair and statement jewelry and I’m pretty sure my house will be covered in layers of colorful rugs. Every inspiring older woman I’ve ever met in New York seems to have a thing for textiles, and I feel like I’m well on my way to that very specific look. Beldi always has a great selection of boucherouite rugs, and they just added a brand new crop of styles. I love the cream/blue/green style above, but there are tons of great options in a range of sizes that would instantly add a huge burst of color and texture to any room. I bought one when I was in Morocco for 30$, PLUS it’s so easy to make!

I fell in love with these rugs sometime last year and decided to try my hand at making one this summer using old sari silk scraps I had laying around. I’m using the latchooking method, which is different than how they are traditionally made, but visually, the outcome is very similar. It is a time consuming and tedious project, but I’m excited for the end result.
