new from jean pelle

by Grace Bonney

I love Jean Pelle’s work- it’s always creative and beautifully constructed. PELLE (the work of Jean and Oliver Pelle) just released two new pieces, an entry and bedside console, that totally caught my eye. Designed as ‘essential storage units for everyday living’, each piece is made here in NYC from solid maple and finished with a hand-rubbed oil wax. The entry console has both drawers and compartments to hold keys, mail, etc. and the bedside console has storage and a bookshelf for organizing everything you need at night. In addition, the turned leg at the base of the bedside console can be detached to use with a low platform bed. PELLE is selling both consoles on their webshop here, but you can also visit their Brooklyn showroom in Red Hook at 390 Van Brunt St. xo, grace

  • It’s always the small simple things like this where I think ‘Why on earth have I not thought of that!’

I really like this….but I think I would paint in a faded white.

  • Oh…I too am a big fan of her work…so excited to see new items! A while ago, she made this neat little cabinet, with a lightbulb on it. Her creations always delight me and make me think.

I love how she is playing with the functionality of the knobs to open/lift the tops of drawers here. I also love the interpretation of the “leg”. : )
