Walter G is a new design company created by two school friends from Sydney, Australia. Lauren & Genevieve’s shared love of textiles lead them to quit their day jobs and “follow their hearts to the colorful subcontinent that is India”. Living and working in a town outside of Jaipur called Sanganer for five months, Lauren and Genevieve learned as much as they could about the area’s tradition with block and mud printing. Moved and inspired by the town’s traditions and artisans, they decided to launch their first collection by highlighting Sanganer’s mud-printed and naturally dyed fabrics which have been used to make cushions and ottomans. But I think my favorite pieces from their collections are a series of lamp shades (placed on vintage containers) made from lahariya dyed turbans. The girls lugged closed to 1500 feet of turban fabric home with them from India and created some truly beautiful shades. Their blog documents some of their trip and the techniques they learned, but you can check out the full collection online right here. If you need a little dose of color this morning, their site is sure to help. xo, grace
