There are few things I enjoy more than supporting artists I love. But getting to support artists I love when they’re producing books with a publisher I love might tip the scales. The very talented Diana Rupp released a great new book, Embroider Everything Workshop, this past fall and made a great video demonstrating a project from the book. I love getting to peek inside craft books, especially when the project embraces the sort of color theory/color-blocking look I love so much right now. Thanks to Workman and Diana for sharing this video with us today. I hope you’ll enjoy the project as much as I did — it’s the perfect way to spend a few hours this weekend if the weather keeps you indoors. xo, grace

These coasters made me smile! They remind me of projects we had to do in a color theory class with sheets of pantone paper back in the day. Their embroidered forms are much less threatening than those fluorescent-lit art school critiques.
Sweet…I love Diana Rupp! Her first book taught me how to sew. :)
Hooray. I love Diana. I learned to embroider from her at Make. She’s a super talented lady and also very sweet. Great post.
These coasters are so beautiful! I love Diana and her new book is awesome. I also love the “Pet Portrait” project–my cats faces are totally on my to do list for this winter!
Yahoo! I think these are AWESOME and I will have to MAKE THEM! Diana taught me to sew and put in zippers! She is a great teacher, and I’ve loved all the make workshop classes I’ve taken! I can wait to embroider my way around my wardrobe!
These are the DIY coasters I have been looking for – gorgeous!
I am going to go out and buy this book right away! Dianna is a great teacher…so clever and patient. I have done two of her workshops. Thanks for sharing this project
I love these! And I love Diana from MAKE! She teaches the BEST classes and is super fun- I took her home lab and am now whipping up lots of fun creations for my apartment! Way to go Diana!!!
I might need to go finish my little embroidery projects from 3rd grade now just to make them into coasters–brilliant idea!
Clever idea !
Josef Albers.
