You know how your favorite music has a way of burying itself deep inside your brain and coming back at unexpected times? In my life, the same thing happens with furniture. I’ll see something, do a double take and then — if it really grabs me — I go back again and open drawers, run my hands across surfaces and maybe even take a picture. I did all of these things when I first saw the table that Grant McGavin of Heartwood had designed and was selling at the (amazing) Antler & Co. pop-up shop. Greg of Antler & Co. has impeccable taste, so it was no surprise that his pop-up shop was full of fantastic design, but that table embedded itself in my mind, and I haven’t been able to forget it since.

Last night, I emailed Greg and Matt (Matt’s beautiful bags were at the pop-up as well) to ask about the designer again, and I ended up spending most of the night re-living the ooh-and-ahh feeling I had when I saw Grant’s work in person this summer.

Grant is based in Portland where he uses local and environmentally friendly hardwoods. His primary wood of choice is a beautiful Oregon Black Walnut that he used to create a stunning series of seating and tables. I’ve got my eye on that three-legged coffee table, but the barstools and benches are really gorgeous as well. Click here to check out Grant’s full collection online. xo, grace

Grant’s stuff is so amazing!
Must be a George Nakashima fan because they all look pretty much like the stuff he used to do.
Beautiful work. I love that he maintains the natural quality of the wood.
Beautiful! I would not mind to have my entire house furnished by Heartwood.
Superb talent! Swooning over the first table pictured.
Thank you for posting such beautiful furniture on your website. I am happy to know that this artist lives in my hometown. Lucky me!
Mr. McGavin is truly loyal to the grain; he treats the wood he works with the respect it deserves.
Grant is really a talented artist! Beautiful work!
