It has certainly been a steamy week in New York. Not that I’m complaining (much). I love summer but staying cool is a bit of a challenge. And in my mind, no one knows how to keep cool better than Southern Italians. My great-grandfather came from a tiny town in Puglia, Italy so this book, Masseria: The Italian Farmhouses of Puglia, had particular resonance for me. Stone floors, white stucco, white linens – just flipping through the pages makes me feel cooler – now if only I could train my cats to bring me a limoncello. Hope you all enjoy your summer weekend! See you on Monday! -Amy

Can I transport myself immediately, please!
Just wow.
I can’t believe people really live in these gorgeous spaces! Color me jealous!
How much do I want to just book a flight and head off to Italy now!? Lovely pictures.
I love how Italian country homes are so simple they become magnificent. I need that bedspread with the crochet triangles!!
Well if this isn’t heaven on Earth, I’m not sure what is. Fabulous spaces, beautiful photography!
looks so cool and relaxing …
The pictures exude the beauty of white when used in the right setting.
it’s good to go to different places for a change.
It’s just the way I imagine such things when reading of rustique Italy! Looks really great!
So beautiful. Love the bedrooms. Looks like the perfect places to take a name on a hot day.
This post just made me want to redesign my bedroom and go on a trip to Italy. The room makeover will have to come first!
Can Italy be any more fabulous? I think not! I seriously want my house to look exactly like those pictures ;)
Those photos look like something right out of a fairytale!
How beautiful! I love all these things. I grew up in a small farmhouse. They have a special.
the photography is great! it makes me want to travel to this farmhouse to relax & absorb it’s history in my bones…
I am looking at these spaces and wondering – Why did my grandfather leave Puliga? Oh, a better life for us but I think the astetic of the place is in my DNA. I have to get this book! Now!
I love the way the pictures make you feel lighter, like if you were there you would have that summery feeling in your belly, and if you were there for a long time it would change you. It must be a very different sort of life to live there….It reminds me again how locality affects style, how that incredible lacework is inherent to the region and the materials used on the walls and floors are also…and makes me idly wonder what is inherent to my region?? Slate, chalk, the bloomsbury group…England seems a good example of weather effecting decor, a lot of grey! Here it must be so hot that the materials are utterly necessary and white is an obvious choice…lovely xxx
the beautiful life of simplicity and peace….it’s all about the people interactions that come into this space…so lovely..ahhh
So beautiful! I want to sit in that chair wearing a white cotton dress and sip limoncello!
Beauty is hiding in simplicity just like in those pics… great pics!
While the photos of this particular masseria are indeed lovely, I assure you only a miniscule percentage of homes actually look like this. I’ve been all over Puglia (in actual homes, not hotels) and have never seen anything remotely like this one. It’s not representative of Puglia nor Italy in general, (although it is beautiful). Thanks for sharing, Amy, the photos make me want to take a nap. :)
never cared much for fringe, but now desperate for fringed bedcover like the one in the “cave”.
what’s that style called? anyone?
Gorgeous! I want to be there right now.
Does anyone know the name of someone who makes the white, tufted, mattress pad thingy at the end of the bed? Does anyone know how to make these? I have searched the internet for information on these but there isn’t much out there. Anyone?
Haha that rock cave is insane! Is that carved out of real rock or is it fake? It cool but i dont think id like sleeping underneath a rock
each day something makes me fall in love with Italy even more! <3
The white bedroom with the stone ceiling is stunning. One of the most interesting bedroom interiors I think I’ve seen in years. Would I like a bedroom similar to that? Yes! Italian design never fails to impress.
Wow, I’m in love. I’m daydreaming of a life spent here!
Simply European.
Absolutely gorgeous!
I got inspired by it’s staircase and its bedroom.. Seems like living at a fully furnished cave.. I’ve never though such simple interior design would be much pretty.
unbelievable ! I am all ready to pack up and go…
Dreamy.
so beautiful. .i am in dream
so beautiful. .im in dream
I can’t keep buying the books mentioned on here! I’ll be bankrupt soon! haha
I follow with interest your blog Puglia. And could not believe my eyes when I saw these pictures of my beloved Puglia on your blog. It ‘true that not all the houses of Puglia are like those of the photo, but not all British people living in a cottage, is not it?
I can assure you that in many old apulian houses you can breathe the same magical atmosphere . I love the white blankets me too and the iron bed is where I slept on my wedding night!
Looks so cool…
cool and awesome blog!
