weekly wrap up + poppies & posies sugar flowers

by Stephanie

This has been a week full of moments that I won’t forget for a long time: the excitement of launching a year-long redesign; the patience-building of absorbing the criticism that comes with a big change; welcoming new members to our team; embarking on an exciting special-edition summer project; and being part of an important conversation about the state of our online design community. There have been highs and lows, but it’s been a week of great lessons and lots of smiles shared with friends and colleagues. As I head into the weekend and keep the site de-bugging process going (thank you for all your feedback and notes), I wanted to end with some literal eye candy for the weekend.

Inspired by the work of talented sugar flower artist, Emily Lael Aumiller, Sierra and Juliet from Poppies & Posies decided to create a series of arrangements using Aumiller’s work and real flowers. The colors are so vibrant that it’s good to know my frequent response, “These are so pretty, I could eat them,” is actually possible. And after a long week, the idea of a giant sugar flower sounds pretty good. Click here to check out more of Emily’s work online and here to see Sierra and Juliet’s beautiful floral work. Photography by Jen Huang. (You can also check out Juliet’s D*S sneak peek right here.)

I’m heading out for the weekend, but I’ll see you all back here on Monday for new sneak peeks, and hopefully, a site that’s running with fewer bugs. Thanks to everyone for hanging in here with us as we plow through the problems and get them ironed out as quickly as possible. Have a wonderful weekend! xo, grace

(Speaking of bugs, the gallery preview feature that we normally run before a jump isn’t working properly, so I’ll add a quick note that there are more images of these gorgeous sugar flowers after the jump!)

Below is a summary of this week’s highlights:

Suggested For You

  • Hi, just wanted to let you know I’m liking the new digs here. It looks great. Takes a bit of getting used to, like all change, but you did a nice job. Looks like a lot of work.

  • Hi, I love your new colors. Change is good! It won’t be long before we all navigate the spaces as if they were always like this. I like the links at the bottom of the page to previous posts, but the colors are my favorite thing.

  • SWEET! So pretty… I must say I’ve been coming back to your blog for a couple of years now, and I love the new look and feel of the design. Looking forward to what’s in store for us readers. Have a great weekend.

  • I’m having real problems downloading the new site. Have disabled Flash Player and that seems to help, but it still takes forever. Any ideas?

    • hi jill

can you tell me what browser you’re using, what version, and what type of computer? we’ve done a lot of testing and the full page shouldn’t take more than 15 seconds to load (it will get faster after that when your browser starts to cache some of the heavier images for you)

  • AMAZING NEW SITE DESIGN!!!!!! Love it!!!!! Congrats to the team – I’m sure it was an immense amount of work to create. Been following you from the beginning & will never stop!! You guys are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for your reply…..it was quicker this time, although have left Flash Player disabled for now. I have a Toshiba, and am using Windows Internet Explorer…..no probs before, although some sites do take a bit longer than others. I presume the extra speed now is due to the browser starting to cache images, as you said. So once again, thanks for your quick reply.

  • Beautiful flowers. I just love the reds and whites.

Love the new site design. Though problem with the footer in Safari 5.0.5 and Firefox 3.5.3 – looks like the overflow is hidden or something (for me, it cuts off =right under “national stationery shot”, so the bottom most links are cut off and I cant scroll any farther. (if you change the footer height to about 800px, it seems to work, though not sure if it would always work if content expanded… Not sure what that does in IE)

  • Beautiful arrangements. Flowers do make the world go round!

The first bouquet reminds me of my own red arrangement of gerberas for my own wedding!

Like your new layout by the way, easy to read!

  • Loving the new design. You continue to be an inspiration to me personally but also for my store. Look forward every day to fabulous design elements beautifully presented. Before and after still my favourite !

  • I am loving the new redesign of your website! Change can be good even though sometimes it can be difficult to welcome! I also love the beautiful and colorful flowers you featured on your website! Absolutely gorgeous :)

  • I love your new look! Thank you so much for all your hard work over the last 1+ years! <3

As a new d*s follower, I appreciate the intentions behind the site enhancements so resources are either to find! Thanks again for the inspiration!

  • i was surprise for the new look of your website and i like it.. the last time that i visited your site was a couple of months.continue inspiring us and giving ideas towards a beautiful life…
