After a week on the west coast, I’m finally back home and working from the comfort of the little divot in my couch, otherwise known as my office. San Francisco and Portland were such amazing cities to be immersed in for a week and I just wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone we saw, planned and unplanned. The west coast was even friendlier than I remember and I left with such affection and gratitude for both cities.
While we were in Portland I snuck in a little shopping time (I barely resisted buying a baby chick at Pistil) and came away with a newfound love of crystal and quartz jewelry. All the boutiques in town had such a well curated collection of organic-feeling jewelry that by the end of the week, it was impossible to resist.

One of my favorite designers working with crystals and quartz from Sara Dudzinsky of Better Late Than Never jewelry in Portland. I picked up a set of her amazing crystal studs at Frances May (man we loved that shop) and haven’t really stopped staring at them since They’re the perfect combination of sparkly and girly, but still edgy and unexpected. You can shop her collection online right here.

I also gave in to a really striking raw quartz ring from Grayling Jewelry after staring at the one Lisa wore during a particularly tasty lunch at Olympic Provisions. It turns out we were right across the hallway from the Grayling studio so the ring above came home with me and I officially hid my credit card from myself after that. The Grayling quartz rings aren’t online, but you can call to place an order or click here to find a shop near you carrying them ($75 each). xo, grace

Ooo, I think I’ve just developed a love for crystals and quartz too. Those studs are beautiful.
Hi there,
The rocks are gorgeous! By the way, there are no dates attached to any of the posts – or is this just my browser (Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1)? Have a nice day!

we removed them from the titles because the content is now formatted by date at the bottom of the site. but if you click on any individual post title you’ll get the month and year in the url in case you want to know :) http://www.designsponge.com/2011/06/like-a-rock.html
when we analyzed stats for the redesign we realized very few people were searching by date so we chose to take that out to de-clutter the titles some.

Awesome smoky quartz ring.
Do you carve these to order or are the imported?
Just spectacular.

So glad you loved Portland, Grace! I know Katy from Grayling and she’s amazing. Love her stuff too but I hadn’t seen this ring yet. Might have to go snag myself one too!
sara
you should totally snag one! they’re a really reasonable price for such a sizable hunk of jewelry :)

Oh, Grace, I hardly ever just click and buy, but had to get a gorgeous pair of amethyst drops (my birthstone) from Better Late Than Never. What a great way to start Tuesday morning here in Eugene, Oregon. Portland is really great, yeah?
tina

The Better Late Than Never Studs have been haunting me, proof that being part of the artist community in Portland is simply delightful. Thanks. So lovely, she is so talented.
Better Late than Never is one of my biggest obsessions. I have two pairs of her earrings. They are gorgeous (and go with everything). One pair acquired at Frances May & one at a sale at the Ace Hotel. Glad you enjoyed PDX!!
