clean and simple in the kitchen

For the past two days, Amy and I have been soaking up the sun in San Francisco (we really lucked out with amazing weather) and lots of great California style. One of the things I associate with California is a love of clean, simple design. While we were doing some studio visits in the Sunset district, I fell in love with these gorgeous wooden cutting boards ($160) at General Store on Judah Street. The entire store was phenomenal, but the wooden pieces they selected were really fantastic.

And since we’re talking about great kitchenware, I’m also lusting after these matte black knives from Stelton & HolmbäckNordentoft ($80). I rarely meet a matte black finish I don’t like (I still miss the old black MacBooks), and these feel so sleek and modern that they’re hard to resist. They might even make me want to cook more often . . . xo, grace

I LOVE General Store! Wandered in there last fall on a trip to SF and picked up the most incredible Pendleton woolen pillow…can’t wait to go back!

Those knives are gorgeous, and I would buy them in a heart beat except it looks like it would be really difficult to sharpen them without ruining the black coating.

As good as it gets in the kitchen. Love the rustic feel of the wood, and the black of the knives. WOW! {love the new design on DS too}

I am a sucker for wooden boards. Going to have to check out this new to me store – I never make it that way!!
