In between work stints this weekend, I stood on our porch and imagined being able to stretch out on a hammock and nap in the sun. There’s no hammock on our porch, or any furniture actually, but there’s the possibility of one, and that’s all I need to feel optimistic. I’ve been stockpiling clippings of my favorite styles over the past few weeks but nothing really clicked until I saw this perfect, perfect piece from Hastens. The name alone means that it’s above my price range (unless I plan to spend all my time in it, which might make $284 seem more reasonable), but it reminds me of my all-time favorite shirt and screams “preppy summer,” which is my weak spot. What I love most about it is that it looks like sleeping in a big, stretched-out picnic blanket that happens to be floating in the air. I know other stores have more affordable options, but right now, this is at the top of my summer dream list. How amazing would it be to kick back and nap away some weekends in this? A girl can dream . . . xo, grace

You know I am saving all of my money for a Hastens bed… The bed is TOTALLY worth it, if you’ve never slept in one… though I’d have my doubts about a Hastens hammock being worth it if you can find another for less!! ($284 doesnt seem bad tho)
Gosh, this would be a great photo prop. Then you could write it off as a business expense. The sewing half of me wonders how hard it would be to make something like this? You would need to be somewhat handy with wood to recreate it.or find a beat-up hammock and just re-use the wood pieces.
I like the blue and white colors too. It is clean and bright.
I saw the beds on the Hastens site(thank you for providing the link) and they look so comfortable.
Hope you get the hammock…and find lots of opportunities to use it!
aaah summer. I am ready for you.
@MB I was wondering how hard it would be to make as well. If you could find a hardware store with nice people you could probably get them to drill the wood for you. And then it’s pretty much just sewing and a bit of knot-tying.
I’m quite tempted to give it a go actually. I’ve no porch to hang one on, but there are plenty of parks with big trees around here.
the coolest hammock i have ever seen is Ieva Laurina’s “Nest” – it really looks magical. http://www.ievalaurina.com/
( go –> objects – functional – nest)
Could you do a hammock round-up?
this hammock is fantastic !
and the view too!
Everyone wondering how hard it is to make: Hammocks are readily available. Go to a discounter (e.g. Tuesday Morning) and find one with good rope, and good wood (actually, we like the red fabric of ours also… you might luck out).
If you hate the fabric, toss it and put in your own. Cut, sew, grommet and just rety those parts only. Custom. Designer. Hammock!
A hammock can’t be hard to make from scratch, either. Grommets, rope, two bitty pieces of wood, maybe a drill, and some outdoor fabric. How about a DIY post? wink wink…
The stand would be the only part I couldn’t imagine doing on my own.
For anyone who has always dreamed of sleeping in a Hästens bed, you can enter to win one (worth over $10,000!) at http://www.hastens.com/bestbedgiveaway now through August 31. Sweet Dreams!
