As much as I love a beautiful front on a piece of furniture, sometimes it’s the back view or the unexpected details that really sell me on a piece. While I haven’t yet seen this chair in person (it’s debuting at ICFF next month), Sara Rowghani’s design sold me with the back view. The twisting wood reminds me of braided hair or some sort of elaborately folded wooden bow (the sort you’d see in one of my favorite Japanese design booths at ICFF). While I’m less smitten with the front, I think the back is promising, and I’m excited to see how it all comes together in person. Until then, this is a good reminder to invest in shirts with back buttons (my favorite) and to brush the back of my hair more often. Sometimes the back view can be the best. xo, grace

*One quick note — I am completely and totally over the woven-wood veneer thing. But for some reason, this chair feels promising to me. Maybe if it was made of another material or perhaps a solid or more worn piece of wood, it would really grab me, but for now, that’s the only thing that gives me pause about this piece.

I was sold just on the back of this chair as well! However, I think the front would be as elegant and simple as the back, and quite nice in its totality actually, especially around a table! You’ll have to let me know after ICFF!!

LOVE the chair…. you are right though, it is more dramatic from the back. Although when pushed into a desk or dining table, it would be AMAZING

I see it being copied in acrylic. Pink for breast cancer, yellow for the soldiers, red for heart health. Or did I just give away my $MILLION$ idea?

Evalyn

I saw it like Tonja does – it looks like a ribbon chair – but I like the wood. No a big fan of plastic chairs.

gosh, I love both sides. the front is amazing. it would be nice in acrylic too, as mentioned above, especially colorless, a ghost braid!

Wowwie! Wowwie! WOW! It’s got an elegance and symmetry/a-symmetry thing going that is really intriguing. And so simple. It could be dressed up or down (in a casual space, in a formal space). Really cool. Cudos!

Please, please report back when you find out the price!

Just beautiful! I agree that you often end up seeing the back of a chair more than the front if it is pushed in somewhere…

Sarah

I love the back too – but it looks like it might be a bit uncomfortable from the front?! Still, you could always get another chair and sit and look at the back :)

Thanks everyone for the lovely comments! Please do stop by the booth at ICFF #1478. Would love to chat. I’m looking for the right manufacturer to see this design to market.
Thanks again! x
