As I get older and my style changes, I find myself moving away from the looks I’m typically drawn to, especially when it comes to furniture. Normally, I love a skinny, tapered leg and something that screams, “I’m a girl! Look at my girly furniture!” But that all feels wrong these days; it’s too feminine and a little dated for my own taste. So when I saw these new pieces from Jayson Home and Garden’s new furniture line (designed by Caroline Scheeler and Devin Kirk), I immediately felt at home with a few of the pieces.

The square detailing in the sofa above, and the shape of the chair and bench strike me as really fresh. I typically sprint toward something lighter and curvier, but I’m connecting with the visual heft of these pieces. They’re the sort of pieces I want to sit in and really feel the weight of. As much as I love furniture that’s a breeze to pick up and move, I’m craving something that can really hold its own in a room. Each of these pieces (the Theodore Sofa, Clarke Chair and Bench) is now available online at Jayson if you’re in the market for some well-made furniture. I know the price points may seem steep, but I’m trying to work on resisting knee-jerk reactions (believe me, I have them myself) and focusing on the craftsmanship. These are high-quality seating options that will stand the test of time, so if you’re interested in investing, I think they’re definitely worth checking out. Thanks to Abbe for the tip! xo, grace

The sofa is really glam – I like ;)
These pieces are truly elegant. I feel like they are great anchor pieces for a living room. I particularly *love* the sofa. Thanks for sharing!
this sofa is a timeless piece. Beautiful!
I was just looking at the catalog with a client yesterday. We have never seen this line up close and personal. The design is lovely..anyone have experience owning any of their pieces?
Very elegant pieces..love the fully upholstered bench..thanks for sharing..have a lovely day..do visit my blog when you have a moment! xx meenal
I’ve fell in love with Jayson Home & Garden several catologues ago, but I also don’t know anyone who has ever owned a piece, so I’m hesitant to order. Also–does anyone know of any stores that carry their stuff?
I love the sofa parked outside on the Victorian house porch. And that chandelier! This all begs for a round of mint juleps and more.
I am completely in love with the upholstered chair and bench that you featured. I could see both pieces fitting into a variety of styles, and that’s the sign of a good investment!
That couch!
Even though it’s boxy, it still feels feminine (but not so much so as to make my husband uncomfortable).
Love it!
I’m sorry, but I think the chair and bench look absolutely horrid. The sofa is beautiful though.
Love Jayson H&G but have only ordered small items to date. Should one really spend $3500 on a sofa, sight unseen? Anyone with info as to upholstered pieces, please share; the Morgan sofa calls to me daily! Or, d*s road trip to Chicago to get to the bottom of it? ;)
it’s like mid-century modern meets the kennedys. so elegant.
Retro at every turn. We are just at the start of a major mainstream boom.
I LOVE the broad white sofa.
Oh boy, shapeless pieces flocked head to toe with velvet? The dream of the (early) nineties is alive in Portland. The couch is the exception. I’m a little slow to embrace new styles, though, so maybe I will love those cat scratching posts with time.

i don’t see those pieces at shapeless at all- in fact that have a pretty clear rectangular or square shape. they’re just not a very refined or curvy shape.

I think it’s just that the clean square lines are somewhat muddled by batting and fabric, but everyone is entitled to their own taste and style.
I like the idea of moving away from everything super girly. I know I have a pile of art pieces and accessories that are just not going to work in with the newly joined styles of married life. For me, though, I still want color, pattern, and curves – maybe just not all in one piece of furniture.
i’m loveing the upholstered legs + nailhead detail on these pieces!
The chair and bench remind me of 1970′s Milo Baughman pieces. Love me some late 70′s Baughman so these look good to me!
:) New? Dated and girly furniture? hmmmm…. remember items like this back in the early 80s at home! That’s OK though, I like seeing it, it gives me a nostalgic feeling. Taperered legs look dated always yet designers where I live insist on using them everywhere, taking beautiful furniture away from public places and installing that style. Love the surroundings on these photos. Yes, they do look Baughman, thank-you, Amnada!
Great piece, and enlightening dialogue. There is indeed a faint echo of Milo Baughman in this piece, who designed for a company called Thayer Coggin for about 20 years. He is gone but his designs live on. T-C still makes everything here in High Point. Here is a sample: http://www.carolinarustica.com/thayer-coggin-charles-sofa/p/TC1056-313/ Thanks!
