I’ve always been more of a coat hook girl, but lately I’ve been tempted by the idea of a nice standing coat rack. Sure it might take up some valuable floor real estate, but if it was cute, maybe I’d be tempted to use it when I walk in rather than dumping my coat on the couch like I always do. This simple but beautiful new rack is the work of designer Zhao Lei of smartwoodhouse. Made from European beech, each rack has a clever interlocking structure that is made seamless with hidden hardware joins. It reminds me of a minimalist tree waiting to be decorated with some cute bags and coats. The site is primarily in Chinese so if you’d like to order, drop Zhao an order right here via email. Pretty!!!
It’s so cool. And works perfectly in front of that simple white wall. If only we had any “empty space” in our apartment. But with hubs, wee daughter, dog and myself on 80sqm, that’s just impossible.
Its really lovely.
I’m not a coat rack girl, but this is pure awesome. Now I’d like to have this even if I don’t have place for it. :D
pretty cool!
It would be lovely in a foyer/entryway…more of a decor prop rather than just a coat rack…since coats and hats are hardly ever worn here in Delhi..i’d love to put it in my walk-in wardrobe to hang bags and necklaces!! thanks for sharing, Grace!! xx meenal
Good morning Design Sponge!
What a GREAT design! It’s hard to find modern coat racks that are beautiful!
Here in Seattle, we actually wear coats, and I prefer to hang my good wool coats on hangers, rather than hooks. This is the closest I’ve seen to what I want, rather than an ‘olde English coat rack’. Love it!
Can I get Zhao’s email. When I click on it, I can’t connect to her email on my computer and I would love to find out more about this beautiful coat rack.
has anyone found out what the price point is on this? I love it!
According to Zhao’s Weibo, the rack is a still a sample and he will announce the price when it’s in production.
