d*s at currency: smart investments for winter warmth

Yesterday the soles on my lone pair of winter boots finally gave way and allowed a huge chunk of icy NYC sludge right into my toasty socks. I spent the rest of the day fidgeting during a meeting, trying to work my foot as close as possible to the heaters. I went home with a wet foot and found myself longing for a big, thick pair of winter boots that would keep my feet nice and dry. So when I saw the winter-warm products that D*S editor Kate rounded up for the D*S Blog at Currency, I found myself saying out loud, “Sign me UP.” From draft-stoppers and humidifiers to sweater-covered water bottles, Kate rounded up ten pieces that are perfect cold-weather investments for the season. That orange crock pot is definitely calling my name. Click here to check out Kate’s post in full and to get the sourcing for each of the products below. xo, grace

Loving the suggestions! (Even though I live in FL where it barely gets cold.) Socks, warm tea & coffee, and lotion were my BFFs when we had our stretch of freezing weather.

Living in Minnesota, I have been struggling with the cold and loved finding this listing!

As for the start of your story… Do you happen to know what you may be replacing your winter boots with? I’m in need of a new pair too!

Hi Monarose

Right now I’m using big green wellies since it’s still icy and snowy around here- but I’m thinking about getting a flat pair of Steve madden boots that won’t cost too much and will still be comfy :)

Oh yes. This is familiar. While I’m staying inside today (& until I’m not sick anymore, oh woe), I love love my programmable Cuisinart slow cooker. I asked for it a few years ago as a bday present. My friends thought I was nuts. No longer since they’ve all bought one. It’s very handy when you’re home or not. I recommend to all that you cook beans overnight. Then freeze or use as needed. It’s a good way to stop w/the canned beans already. Cheers & hope your tootsies warm up. xo

I swear by my humidifier and my Burt’s Bees cuticle cream. Seriously. I was organizing my bathroom drawer last month and re-discovered the Burt’s. Lifesaver. I’ve not had any cuticles tear/split/hurt since using it on an almost daily basis.

Is it just me or is there no product sourcing information when you click through?

Monarose – I live in Iowa and LL Bean “Bean Boots” are what I wear. This year they added a shearling lined version so they are waterproof and warm too! Not as cute as Wellies though!

Crock pot cooking has been my Winter staple. My fave this year has been a mouthwatering vegan lasagna! So easy, so good, so hearty!

Another vote here for Burt’s Bees – I keep a tube in the bathroom and by the bed. Plus I run my the humidifier every night. It is a dry skin lifesaver! Very good tips and products!

Grace! you MUST invest in stegers. I live in MN and finally bought a pair, and my life will never be the same. I just know you’d start a fashion trend in NYC if you wore them.

I had two pairs of uggs (which I still appreciate for their ease of putting on, and coziness) but people in MN swear by these things, and they’re kinda cute, in a mocassin meets boot kind of way…

I might sound a tad stupid here..but what is that glorious blue stove in the first photo? my husband and i have been dying to install some type of fireplace/stove and that looks so great! Would you know what it’s called?

Rosa

Does anyone know what make that stove in the first picture is? It’s gorgeous!

grace

hi rosa!

that is a vintage stove, but you can find very similar versions here: Malmfireplaces.com

On a side note here . . .

Did anyone else notice that the shape of the branches in the window from the main photo makes it appear that you are looking at a city map?

That is so visually cool!
