design*sponge yard sale: feb 26th

Pattern above by Julia Rothman

Morning guys! Those of you who follow my ramblings on Twitter know that we’ve been slowly getting rid of things in our home to prepare for the move in a few weeks. We have a crazy-fast turn-around time for the move, so I’m trying to lighten the load in preparation for buying some fresh pieces to fit our new space. I was overwhelmed with emails from people interested in buying some of our mid-century pieces, so I thought I’d go ahead and open up our home this weekend for a modified yard sale. Since we don’t have a yard, we’ll be inviting anyone interested in picking up some of our things to our actual apartment to check everything out in person. I’m really ready to embrace a new style, so we’ll be selling our mid-century credenza, Kofod-Larsen rocking chair (great for kids), mid-century side table, Eames-style side chair, artwork, framed chalkboard, chandelier, various ceramics and small sculptural objects, vintage red storage unit (one of my favorites), white West Elm mirror, standing ball lamp, vintage orange glass lamp, two Madeline Weinrib rugs and much more. (I’ve uploaded some images after the jump if you want to see them in more detail.)

If you’re interested in stopping by, we’ll be having our “yard sale” this Saturday, February 26th from 11am–5pm (Brooklyn, NY).

If you’d like to attend, please shoot me an email at DESIGNSPONGE at GMAIL dot com and I’ll send you the address (Please title your email “YARD SALE”). See you soon! xo, grace

UPDATE: Hi guys! We received over 300 RSVps for the yard sale so I’m closing the RSVPs now because our little apartment just can’t hold that many people. Sorry about that, I didn’t expect to hear from that many people so fast!

Kofod-Larsen rocking chair (with Hable Construction fabric)

Mid-century credenza/dresser (there is a hole in the back panel because we made room for our TV cables)

“Grace” chandelier from Crate and Barrel (hanging above)

Madeline Weinrib zigzag rug, bedside sconces and John Robshaw quilt

Madeline Weinrib patterned rug

Tall mid-century dresser

very jealous of anyone able to partake in the ‘yard’ sale. you have some amazing pieces that i’m sure will be cherished in their new home!

Lucía

You have some amazing pieces! Too bad I live in South America, otherwise I’d definitely run over there and grab some for my own place…

Tabitha

I want the credenzas!! Alas, I don’t live there and just can’t justify the trip. Happy moving, congratulations on finding your new place.

Ingrid

i just emailed! but i also wanted to share this link with you. apparently the Limewire offices in Brooklyn are auctioning off their office furniture (and it’s pretty outstanding). prices range from $75 to $2,500. thought you might be interested! the URL is sohoforsale dot tumblr dot com

check out that driftwood console table …

Ingrid

sorry. obviously not in brooklyn. but pickup available for nyc/brooklyn peeps.

grace

lol. the cats aren’t for sale. though, one time my landlord actually said about turk, “you could get a lot of money for that cat”. what???

Loren

Definitely interested! I live in Brooklyn and am closing on an apartment in Park Slope in the very near future!

Susan

Wow…you really are starting over! Two years ago we moved from a split level to a contemporary home here in NC and it’s been a blast trying new things. We brought a lot of our old stuff too for that collected look and for the memories but the new mix is exciting! How fun…good luck with your new place – hope to see lots of pics!

Heather

Wow! Wish I lived close right now! :) Thanks for sharing with all of us though! I’m excited to see where your new style will take you! New furniture no matter what style is fun!

cc

Maybe you have already mentioned this in a previous post, but what new style will you be embracing? Can you give us a hint or pics?

Heidi

Aw, I still remember when you got the rocking chair. It’s like a little piece of d*s history!

jen

oh man oh man I wish I could be in Brooklyn!! Unfortunately, California is a bit far… I’m smitten with that framed Chalkboard and West Elm Mirror!

caitlin

I am considering flying to NYC for that credenza. So lovely and so jealous of everyone who can actually go!

Amanda Parker-Wolery

Oh Grace!
I wish you luck. I feel ya know the grown up aspect. Being 29 counting down the days til 30 I find myself at a crossroads of what I was, what I am and what I want to be. I walked into my house yesterday and thought to myself “I don’t collectively like any of this…how did it come to this point?” I hope the new place provides a fresh start to reclaim your YOU!!

kelly

Yarrrrr! I can’t wait to see how you decorate your new place. Isn’t it funny how fast our tastes change? When you first posted Matte Stephens sneak peek, I thought “Oh man that is my DREAM home!” and now, even though I still love it, it’s not my dream home anymore. Even just 3 years ago I had color explosions all over my house, and now I find myself buying a lot of gray things and antique things that aren’t mid-century… Anyway, just sayin’ I can’t wait to see what you do. And your new patio – can’t even believe how good it looks already even undecorated. :)

Newly Domesticated

i would kill for the credenzas! I’m so impressed you are able to part with this stuff for the greater good! My packrat tendencies probably wouldn’t allow it, but I can’t wait to see where you go from here.

db

oooh even though i am a teensy bit jealous (ok very jealous) to be an 8 hour drive away…I’ll be sending some friends over ! at least they can perhaps score smthg instead of me! lucky them -
ah living vicariously through others ! :)

Erena

WANT! the rocking chair is awesome. Too bad I’m not in the states till April, and even then, I don’t think it’d travel well longhall back to New Zealand :/

tami Cohen

IN LOVE with the white mirror and jealously jealous of whomever walks away with it! i feel like moving just so i can have a shot at it, but that’s hardly practical at all :)

Tori Cole

I have that exact same rocking chair! With a matching side chair! They came from my great grandmother-she had amazing taste!

antonia

grace

antonia

bridget212323

yet another reason i’m bummed i don’t live in NY anymore…

Dannie H

I’d love to be on the wait-list! Will be in NYC on Saturday. Thanks!

grace

laurianne

it is a yard sale, all of the furniture will be used or gently used. although that photo is actually of turk stretching, not scratching ;)

grace

Meg

Wow, Grace. I remember the post about moving to a more “grown-up” style. It may not feel like you anymore, but your current apt is far more sophisticated than you’re giving it credit for. You have a great sense of style. Can’t wait to see the next incarnation–please share pics of your new space!

Molly Payne-Hardin

Maybe a little more Savannah (and the South) will pop up in your next incarnation. Have fun in new apartment — deck is glorious! Hope garage sale was good! Molly (in the South :)
