when i was in college and first discovered interior design i always thought i’d end up pursuing some sort of restaurant design career. i love the way that you get to embrace big concepts and some non-traditional design ideas. so i was excited to hear from christia about chef brian malarkey’s new san diego restaurant “searsucker“. brian shared a delicious lasagna and “sage sucker” drink recipe with us as part of last month’s top chef recipe series so i was psyched to get a little peek into his new spot. located in san diego’s historic gaslamp district, searsucker has a wonderful mix of reclaimed furniture and vintage pieces- i especially love the rugs they chose and the mix of wooden chairs. if you’re in town let me know how it all looks in person- but until then you can check out searsucker right here online.

What a great place to lounge and eat!!

It looks gorgeous! I’m a sucker for any design that includes exposed brick. lol!

love to see a sense of play in a restaurant. I get a smile everywhere I look. I’m working on a restaurant right now and we’re trying to achieve the same goal, with a different approach. I’m forwarding this to my client he’ll love it.
That entire dining set is available at Restoration Hardware, BTW. I’ve had my eye on those chairs for a long time, but they’re expensive if people aren’t going to pay me to sit in them! :)

The interior almost feels like a living room, albeit a very large and cool living room.
IN LOVE!
Beautiful! But I’m cringing thinking about fơdd spilling onto those gorgeous rugs!
i love it! it looks like you are eating in someone’s home. very cool vibe.
Yum yum yum. Love this so much.
My husband and I walked past this restaurant this week and we both stopped and stared… it is so cozy & welcoming. We will be back to dine there for sure!
Gorgeous! Might have to make the trek from LA to San Diego to see it myself!
This is lovely. We’re in SD every couple of weeks. I am definitely adding this of our list of great things to do and see in SD. Love SD.
I recently relocated to SD and live IN THE GASLAMP QUARTER on 4th. I walk by this very restaurant all the time. I alway say to my husband, “We have to try that!!” It’s so lovely.
that rope chandelier is perfection
Beautiful and Fun! Do take a look at this great SD experience!
My husband and I had dinner here tonight. Decor was lovely and the food was awesome.
You can all always use Brian’s recipes from Behind the Bar (sagesucker drink) and In the Kitchen With (butternut squash lasagna) to pretend like you’re at Searsucker until you can actually make it there!
Where does one find the HUGE drum shade?
EAT sign seals the deal for me! I’ve been lucky enough to dine at this work-of-art of a restaurant — as pleasing to the eye as it is to the palate!
So glad you highlighted this. I live in SD and happen to be a huge Top Chef fan so I was very excited when this restaurant opened. I went there a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed every bite while taking in the great ambiance. I hope you get to come out and experience his restaurant :)
Brian’s restaurant is so good and I love his website! ;]
I love the way this restaurant doesn’t really look like a restaurant. It looks like a chic, modern and contemporary coffee shop with a home-like feel. I think some of the best restaurants are the ones that make you feel like you’re eating at home (or a better version of your home :-D). Thanks for the awesome San Diego highlight. Definitely on my to-do list on my next road trip from Phoenix!
This looks awesome!! I LOVE the design!
