I am a firm believer in the western genre. Not everyone loves them, especially these days, but Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a western I think anyone can get behind. I mean, P A U L N E W M A N. Need I even say more? Yes, I think I will. Because even if words fail to describe said P A U L N E W M A N and how he is my one and only, dream of a dream- I also have plenty of effusive words for the movie. And Robert Redford. And just about everything else that goes on during its glorious 110 minutes.
Butch Cassidy manages to be hilarious, bittersweet, nail biting and tender all rolled up into one giant race from the law. When they’re being chased, you’re being chased, too. When they’re riding around on a bicycle, you’re on the handle bars. When they’re mid-shoot out with the Bolivian police, you’re on the couch, happy to be far far away. No matter, Butch and Sundance understand. They’re on the front lines for all of us non outlaw types and that’s why we love them. –Amy M.
