living in: butch cassidy and the sundance kid

I am a firm believer in the western genre.  Not everyone loves them, especially these days, but Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid is a western I think anyone can get behind.  I mean,  P A U L    N E W M A N.  Need I even say more?  Yes, I think I will.  Because even if words fail to describe said P A U L    N E W M A N and how he is my one and only, dream of a dream- I also have plenty of effusive words for the movie.  And Robert Redford.  And just about everything else that goes on during its glorious 110 minutes.

Bowler hat $48, victorian diamond ring $386, antique bank bag $8, replica western revolver $75,  gold pocket watch $95, brass trunk $1795, pair of inert dynamite sticks $12, cage desk lamp $148.

Butch Cassidy manages to be hilarious, bittersweet, nail biting and tender all rolled up into one giant race from the law.  When they’re being chased, you’re being chased, too.  When they’re riding around on a bicycle, you’re on the handle bars.  When they’re mid-shoot out with the Bolivian police, you’re on the couch, happy to be far far away.  No matter, Butch and Sundance understand.  They’re on the front lines for all of us non outlaw types and that’s why we love them.   -Amy M.

Horseshoe bracelet $183, antique corset cover $22, wicker mason jar $18, antique french catalog $9, pick your own apples, antique bicycle replica (similar to shown) $229, leather belt $38, canvas lace up boots $98.

LUV THIS MOVIE!!! Can’t get any better than the knife fight…

Am I allowed a living in suggestion? “My Brilliant Career”. Watched it again the other day and instantly thought of this blog.

Maggie

This might be my absolute favorite “living in” yet! Such a great film, and the pairings you chose are perfect! Love the Victorian boots and camisole.

Julie

Love everything about this! One of my favorite movies, two of my favorite men, and now one fancy diamond ring that I have to have. Huzzah!

jasmine

so in love with this.
those boots, that hat, the bicycle, this lamp…

Betty

swooning over those fold over boots!! too bad they are only left in a size 6! If anyone finds them elsewhere…please report back!

Megan

I didn’t care for the movie at all, but I enjoyed Robert Redford and Paul Newman. :) I did notice how pretty things were– it’s a tactic of mine during movies I find difficult. I did the same during Godfather II.

Bernie

Love, love, LOVE that movie. Saw it in the movie theater with my best friend, when we were in the 10th grade. Seems like yesterday. That is a real SWOON.

Yes. Paul Newman. A picture of him hangs behind my desk. He is interested in everything I do. It makes me feel very good about my work.

Amy

Well done! Great movie with two beautiful men – both inside and out. The belt and the dynamite are now on my fall list of must haves. Thx!

Jenny

Fun to see this today…On our vacation this summer, we took the train from Durango to Silverton and saw several of the locations where this film was made. Gorgeous scenery!

I just want to say I love this movie, and that Paul Newman is my dream crush as well. He was such an amazing human being, and one of so few gentlemen in Hollywood.

InkSketch

Oh this is a good one! Yep, Robert Redford and Paul Newman are IT. Can I also make a request? I would love to see Living In cover, The Adventures of Baron Munchausen and Desperately Seeking Susan. Pleeeeease?

Jessica

I saw this movie on my very first stay in NY. We stumbled upon Bryant Park’s movie night and joined in the fun. When the horses galloped, it echoed off all the skyscrapers like a canyon. One of my best memories of NY!

Mai

The best outlaw pair in the business!

Thanks for the accessory spread–very fun.

Laura

Neat!

Might there someday be a “Living In” post for The Lake House with Sandra Bullock? *bats eyelashes* :)

Jodi

Lots of fun. MOST IMPRESSED by the “inert” dynamite sticks – would love to get some of them, if for nothing else but propping on house/car windowsill as a warning to thieves (or just on a coffee table as fun…!)
Last weekend saw two reunion shows by 1980s Sydney band the Johnnies who dress from this very period and play very funny “cowpunkpop” music. (Yes you can find them on Youtube). They even used to use hay bales as props! Would fit right into the film/decorations.

love this movie…taking western chic tips from this movie is spot on…

on a completely different note, you know what movie i would love to see done as a Living In?….Curse of the Golden Flower…

gorgeous film, simply stunning…its eye candy from start to finish….i want to live in GOLD!

Megan

I love love love this movie. Robert Redford is so dreamy! Great post!

Molly

Haha. I actually *do* live in butch cassidy and the sundance kid. Well, sort of. I live in the area of Utah where this was predominately filmed.

Anna Benson

Oh to be Kathrine Ross…One of my favorite scenes in f all of movie-dom is she and Butch on the bicycle … “Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head” …No maybe the Corset unlacing scene with Sundance… Anyway. This movie is worthy is of all the attention it got here and Kathrine Ross is probably still dizzy from the experience. Your props are fabulous!
