dalton ghetti

just a little morning eye candy to start the week. and by little, i mean tiny. dalton ghetti is an amazing artist from connecticut who carves tiny works of art into pencil lead. he’s been in the press for some time now, but d*s reader jerica sent me an email about his work this weekend and i ended up falling in love with his work all over again. i’d never seen these awesome letters he carved into pencil nubs so i thought i’d kick off the day with something beautiful and tiny. click here for more info on dalton’s work. thanks, jerica!

That is so incredible! I saw a story on the Sunday Morning Show about a man who creates tiny sculptures in the eyes of needles.. who has that kind of patience??

I love your work, to spend so much time and effort has really paid off. Your designs are beautiful, i hope to see them in an exhibition one day! :)

These are amazing — I can hardly imagine the skill and patience it would take to create even one of these, let alone dozens. (Especially that lock and key, and the chain shown on the linked site.) Wow.

I was just looking at Ghetti’s work last week, after a friend brought Ghetti to my attention.

He doesn’t use any magnifying glass!

There was a pretty large collection of his work on view at the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore a couple years ago. Not sure if it’s part of the permanent collection or if it was just a temporary exhibit. But it was one of the highlights of the visit for me!

this would be an amazing video to watch his process – beautiful detail.

I came across some of these a few months ago..it blows my mind! apparently some of them take 10 years to do..I can’t even fathom having patience like that!

that’s twice now on d*s.

i think the pencil alphabet would make THE BEST print in a kid’s room. every kid needs to know their abc’s.

at first sight, i just thought those letters had been stuck on top of the pencils… my jaw dropped when i realised they had been CARVED out of lead!!

I love his work, unfortunately he doesn’t sell it, he gives it away to family and friends…

I wish I was his friend lol

I didn’t see what the big deal was until I took a second look – then OMG I couldn’t believe my eyes. The never-ending creativity of people continues to amaze me – and yes the patience too!
