it seems like everyone’s scoring awesome dressers lately, and i love all the re-designs i’m seeing. it’s not everyday that you see nice mesh cabinet fronts like on this piece (i love the little “peek” inside at what appears to be an amazing pile of fabrics). allison is a self-described sewing fiend in the evening hours, so i guess i shouldn’t be surprised to see such a nice collection of swatches. she’s created a beautiful vignette with this dresser, and i love the contrast of the pale wall color and white dresser with the red artwork . great job, allison! -kate

this is a great project to get you inspired for fall. maggie’s floral accents and the pops of glossy red on this piece make me desperately want to visit an apple orchard (oh new hampshire, how i miss you so…). as a graphic designer, maggie’s visual skills are clearly coming into play here; the color choices and the floral patterned paper compliment each other beautifully. nice job, maggie!

beautiful dresser! also i love the “we tend to seek happiness” art! wheres it from?
how do you paint the top of a dresser like this? i have one similar to the second, but it has a slick surface. do i simply sand it and paint over top?
They are both so beautiful. I love how the mesh doors just pop on that first piece once it was painted white.

I really like the sleek white dresser with the many colors of fabric peering through the mesh cabinet! a very cute look, indeed!
The last dresser is from the same line of furniture which I had two nightstands from (prior to moving back and forth across the country) and I see pieces from this same line all the time…if I go into a vintage/used furniture store I’m pretty much guaranteed to find something from it. Who made these??? They really are everywhere, I’ve seen them all across the country, and I’m a major interior design dork so I’ve probably been to a lot more vintage/thrift stores and antique malls than the average person.
Wow, it was painted white- awesome. Award winner for sure!!
Beautiful projects! One question, I see a lot of people adding colorful paper to their furniture like this–are they mod podging it and then sealing with a poly? How do they ensure it doesn’t begin peeling at the edges and corners?
hi emily!
mod podge should prevent peeling. let it fully dry and then cover it with another level of mod podge, it should act just like poly.

is maggie’s dresser painted brown over the original veneer? the finished piece looks like wood, but i assume the original finish is veneer… just wondering what the process was? very nice!
Beautiful job! I would love to know the source for the “We tend to seek happiness…” artwork above the dresser.
The ‘We tend to seek happiness’ is by Rodney White. His art has been mass produced and can be found in places like World Market, Target and Bed Bath and Beyond. I have a 4′x4′ ‘There’s no such thing as small change’ by him that I picked up at a Kroger Marketplace.
Beautiful! I LOVE the “happiness” piece too.
absolutely love that white dresser!
Found it on Ballard Designs or…http://www.worldmarket.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3597040
love the brown dresser! how do you adhere the paper to the wood and do you apply a seal to that at all?
I can’t decide which of these I love more! They are both beautiful. I must go get some old furniture and paint it right now! :)
yay, maggie! I got to see it up close last weekend- so well done and yes, there was another companion piece that came in later at the thrift from the same line!
A friend pointed me here. Thanks for the love on the art guys. This is what keeps me painting.
This and many others will be available on my site VERY soon at http://market.rodney-white.com
love seeing dresser before and afters since I am working on my own right now. These are great.
The art work is by an artist and friend named Rodney White. Check him out here:

Crazy impressive. Makes me want to run right out and buy some crummy furniture to fix up!
I adore the white cabinet with the mesh – can you share where did you get that from? TIA!
Love the dresser re-do but even more excited to see Rodney’s painting! LOVE his artwork. It’s nice to see a young artist achieve so much success.
The first dresser looks more like a sideboard to me.
I love Rodney’s paintings! thanks for sharing. :)
I found the “Seek Happiness” print online at Cost Plus World Market along with other Rodney White prints here (and they’re on sale!): http://www.worldmarket.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=rodney%20white&origkw=rodney%20white&sr=1
Thanks for all the dresser-love!
I just roughed up the original finish on my dresser by sanding it. I put a few coats of primer on before I painted it, and layered the brown paint over that.
Like Grace said, mod podge is all I used to adhere and seal the paper.
I think this is one where I like the “befores” better than the “afters.” I love the rustic wood and chicken wire look of the first one, and the detailing on the second stands out so much more in the before shot.
Where did you find the first dresses…that you painted white?? I have been looking for something like that!!!
The small brown dresser is darling! I don’t really like wire mesh; it reminds me of a rabbit hutch, but I do like the white paint and the overall design of the dresser.
