modern arks: vintage crate side tables

hello, beautiful vintage boxes. have we met? my name is grace and i’m a vintage wooden box addict. no really, i have a prob-lem. i collect you with reckless abandon, regardless of whether or not i need more of you. so even though it pains me that i can’t buy more of you (amy has to pull me away from them these days) it makes me happy to see that so many of you have gone to a good home at the modern arks studio in nashville.

modern arks creates original furniture, wall art, notebooks and postcards using re-purposed or recycled materials. their shipping crate side tables, my favorites, use beautiful vintage crates to create unique side tables with an authentically weathered patina. one-of-a-kind and perfectly worn in, they’re right up my alley. modern arks launched their debut collection on etsy last week and you can now check out, and shop, their full selection of furniture and accessories right here. thanks, jamie!

This is such a great idea. Those old boxes sure do provide a nostalgic aura. :D Thanks for sharing!

This trend is right up there with the use of printed burlap. My parents used old whiskey cases for our toy boxes growing up in the 60′s.

their vintage books turned notebooks are absolutely beautiful. i’m especially fond of the “one of the 28th” cover! unfortunately i can’t help but cringe every time i see that they misspelled “its” in the blurb inside the front cover of each book – i’m too picky i’m sorry, it’s such a lovely idea but my eye keeps stopping on it in every listing!

Very nice! And nice to see another Nashville creative soul. I saw them on Etsy recently by searching for local. How exciting to see them here, shortly thereafter!

I love these, wish they were in the UK as I’d try to stock them in my online shop. Just up our street! I think everyone has a thing for old boxes, I was at an antique fair the other day and people were buying old apple boxes by the half dozen…maybe for bedding plants, Gorgeous! Great to change the use of an old item.

Amazingly beautiful work. Imperfections and all. I love it all.

These are so cool. I recently purchased an old peach crate, maybe I can take on a project like this.

Gorgeous. I’m glad I’m not the only one with a vintage crate obsession! Really, though, what’s not to love?

when I first saw them I thought that they were butcher blocks. Very Clever though and inspiring.

These are really amazing, and it’s such a great thing keeping the world a little greener by simply taking some old ugly thing and making something both beautiful and functional!

We have maybe 8 old wooden crates, both soda and milk crates. Most of them were free because my family already had them from long ago, and a couple we bought for 4 bucks each at my favorite thrift store in RI. We made a table like this out of one once, and then when I wanted to stack my crates and use them as a bookshelf we took the legs off. These things are great! I’m just like you Grace, I can’t deny an old wooden crate, love them!

Not Your Goddes

I’ve been trying to find wooden crates like this for ages, but I’m in Iceland and haven’t managed to find even one! I absolutely adore them and wanted to use them as shelves in my boys’ room for their toys.

Katherine

I have been looking for wood crates but even at the best thrift stores they are around $20. Have folks seen them for less?
