Amy Merrick is taking a break this week so Grace thought that maybe another Amy Elizabeth from Williamsburg, Brooklyn might pinch hit! I’ve had Young Victoria in my Netflix queue for months – I became kinda obsessed with early Victoria back when I was working on the history of tartan. I must say that I’m prone to like any movie where Julian Fellowes is involved (He wrote the script for Gosford Park and had a starring role in one of my guilty pleasures – Monarch of the Glen ). This is one beautiful movie and – except for the corset part – this is the kind of movie that I’d just love to crawl into. Who am I kidding – I’ve never met a period piece that I didn’t like.
[image above, clockwise from top left: topysy-turvy wallpaper $148, top hat head band (band is missing from photo) $18.50, emersonmade corsage $325, wax seal $34, silver bell $2.95, crystal candelabra $114.14, palace glass $22, cone topiary $62, king charles spaniel (from cavalier rescue usa)]

I love how everything is lightened up – it’s not that heavy Victoriana – this the Queen young and in love and thing (OK, she was probably never as thin as Emily Blunt, but in her later years, she sure could chow!) My favorite part of the movie? Definitely when after her five hour coronation, she actually returns to the palace and gives her beloved pooch – Dash – a bath!
[image above, clockwise from top left: medieval knights chess set $174.95 (similar to shown), tufted wallpaper, easel and paint kit $98.99, 3 tier server $29.99, vendome gold goblet $17.99, pear drop earrings $81 (similar to shown) sconce $315, iron crown $44]

Oh goodness! Yes, I love, love, love The Young Victoria. You are so right…it’s really lightened up which makes it lovely! And, what a coincidence because I just watched this film two nights ago. ;) I love it…and the actor who plays Albert is wonderful and Emily Blunt is superb!
XOXO-
Rachel
Loved this movie as well. I’m immediately drawn to any period piece just to appreciate the costumes and scenery. While visiting London years ago, my favorite day was the one spent in the Victoria & Albert museum’s clothing exhibits as well as seeing the wedding gowns at Kensington Palace. So much inspiration!
Lovely film and selection – any way we can have links to these droolworthy items?
I love this movie! One of my favorite period pieces.
ack! not sure where the links went- asking amy now…
Oh la la. I LOVE that yellow dress she is wearing in the first picture. Stunning.
Oh, this is lovely. I have never seen this movie, as I am not a fan of the Victorian era. But this, like you said, is a lighter, prettier version.
Speaking of wax seals…has anyone tried the sealing wax that you can stick in a glue gun? Slightly less picturesque, but perhaps more practical?
swoon
Victoria is my second favorite monarch but by far my favorite time period. This movie is really well done, and the artistry put into it is just awesome!
I saw the preview for this on the DVD for Bright Star (which I rented because of D*S!) and now I’m next on the waiting list for a library copy. Now I’m even more anxious to watch it! Gorgeous screenshots and item selections. I think I need that little easel!
I adore the vintage glam..the chandeliers, the jewelry, the fancy crystal..and just basically anything that sparkles!
Where is the bird wallpaper in the first collage from?
karen
it was from anthro but looks like it sold out in between writing and posting this- so i’m trying to find it at an alt location…

Ohmygoodness. . .Kilwillie wrote Gosford Park?! Can you do a Monarch of the Glen “Living In” that involves Archie, men in kilts, and that phenomenal scenery? *sigh*
Not to take away from Ms. Vicky, but I also adore Monarch of the Glen! Check out McLeod’s Daughters for another guilty pleasure!
Heck yeahhhh!!!
Great pix.
Thanks Grace, that paper is gorgeous and I want some for my powder room!
Love, love, love this living in post, Grace! Thanks soo much…Please keep going with this! Here’s my wish list, just in case you’d run out of ideas ;) – , A Good Year (please!!!), Something’s gotta give, It’s complicated, The Holiday, Love Actually, Under the Tuscan sun, Bridget Jones …
xoxo Wilma
The earrings in the last picture look very similar to some Givenchy ones from Macy’s, my daughter wore for her wedding 2 weeks ago. I think they were about $40. Matching necklace $65
LOVE! That movie was so enjoyable, and your picks are spot on.
“Who am I kidding – I’ve never met a period piece that I didn’t like.”
You and me both. Costume design is one of my favorite aspects of film and theater in general.
“Living In” for “Young Victoria” officially made my day. Three words:
Thank you!!
Gorgeous!!
Criminy how I love this movie. Sigh….I watched the proposal scene where he says “And you want me to live with you? And marry you?” like 50 times. So sweet. Her love for him was so geniune in a time when love in aristocracy didn’t matter. It is so touching that she laid out his clothes everyday after he died until her death. True love. Thanks for this one!
ahhh, dreamy. always love a good tufted bench, and always trying to convince myself i write letters enough to warrant a wax seal :)
Ooh, I loved this movie! I think my husband may have loved it even more than me, but don’t tell him I said that!
Agreed, Ashley R. I wantched that seen a number of times. So romantic!
Yikes! I meant “scene”
Hi – I don’t see a link for the beautiful mirror above the candelabra. Would love to know where to find it!
Oh, Monarch of the Glen… I thought I was the only one!
I cannot wait to see this movie- I’ll be renting it on a girl’s night so I don’t have to deal with my boyfriend rolling his eyes the whole time :)
One of my favorite movies! beautiful film all the way around, so excited to see it featured!
Also I’d love to see a “living in” Before Sunrise or Before Sunset!
Where’s the bench from in the first picture? I didn’t see it sourced
thanks so much!
Love this film and love this post. Thanks!
i absolutely loved this movie… every single thing about was great!
This is such a dreamy movie and I love all of the products–they really evoke the feeling of the film this week.
I am so obsessed with the decor in this movie. I wish my entire house could be decorated this way and I could just live in lala land. The wallpaper, the chandeliers, the uncomfortable furniture. Absolutely magical.
Ah I love this movie, and this collection! And I too am a fan of Monarch of the Glen, you really should do a Living In about that one too, like someone suggested. That would be brilliant. I have another request too, Up. Yes it’s an animation, but the decor in the house is beautiful, and so is the South American scenery.
I can’t find the link to the bench pictured in the first collage. Could you tell me where it is from?
I can’t wait to see the film, thanks for reminding me I MUST put it at the top of my netflix!
