d*s meetup in portland, oregon on august 3rd!

good morning guys! ac and i are heading to portland in two weeks where i’m speaking at the IDSA conference on august 4th. when we’re in town i thought it would be fun to have a little meetup to have fun and hang out with anyone in the area who wants to come join us! carla at alder & co. graciously offered to host the get together on august 3rd (5-8pm) at her shop downtown. we’ll be enjoying hors d’ouvres from the restaurant next door (yum!) and cocktails, mingling with friends and local artists, and checking out the goods at carla’s newly opened shop. if you’re in town for IDSA or just want to come by, i hope you’ll join us- it’s going to be a blast!

also, we’ll be collecting art supplies to support a fantastic local charity, p:ear. p:ear is a portland-based non-profit organization that creatively mentors homeless and transitional youth through education, art and recreation. alder & co. will donate a percentage of the evening’s sales to p:ear, and we are asking guests to bring art supplies to donate to these wonderful kids. items needed include: water-based paints, brushes, craft supplies, crochet and knitting supplies, glues, glitters, markers, papers, sewing supplies, and scissors. (p:ear does not currently need crayons or oil-based paints). ac and i will be collecting supplies while we’re in town, so if you have a few extra dollars (or some extra un-used supplies) i hope you’ll join us in helping out this great local charity.

hope to see you there! the summary details are below:

Oh! I wish I were going to be there! I have a whole huge BOX of old art supplies in storage I don’t use that I could donate. I assume P:ear take donations of these supplies year round?

Barbara

LOve, love, LUV your blog and the super stuff you do! Keep it coming!

PS: got real excited seeing that you’ll be in “portland.” Then realized you meant the other one, not the “real” one ;-)

I’m there! I have all sorts of fun supplies lying around. Also, anyone wanting to show up with supplies (but don;t have much to scrounge up) could hit up SCRAP and put together a cool donation basket on the cheap!

Katie

Only unused (new) supplies, or are clean, functional, used supplies also appreciated?

Only unused supplies are needed at this time. Hope you can make it! (the donation isn’t required to attend, but would be a great, inexpensive way to give back to your community)

Awesome – I can’t afford the design seminar but to meet one of my favorite bloggers – is a real treat!

be sure to check out SCRAP while you’re down there! It’s a community art, craft, and recycling project held together by volunteers and gorilla glue. I find amazing, weird little bits and bobs every time i go there- but beware, this is not your normal pretty art supply store, these are items that have been deemed unusable or unwanted. but the secret is that there’s probably something in there that’s exactly what you needed.

look out for: fabric pieces, yarn, string, thread, cards, paper, notebooks, misc tiles, wood, caps, bottles, boxes, misc canvas totes, and all kinds of goodies.

seriously worth a look!

Haley

Is this totally open to the public? I’m not part of the industry at all, just an eager student who loves making pretty things and would love to see whats going on!
