right now it’s so hot in brooklyn that just the idea of a picnic makes me start to sweat. but i have hope that one day soon we’ll see the thermometer dip below 90 again and i can drag ac over to the park for a little dining al fresco. when that day comes, i love the idea of toting things over there with this funny new picnic box from boxsal.

boxsal is quite simply a cardboard box with compartments for toting picnic goods to your desired location. made from post-consumer pulp, each box is roomy enough to pack a full picnic (and comes with fully compostable utensils, plates, cups, containers and napkins) and comes with one of three styles: urban picnic, today’s date, and office escape (my favorite, shown above). if picnics aren’t your thing, i love the idea of using the office style to tote donuts or bagels in to co-workers each morning. the only downside is that the price is a little on the steep side for me ($35 each), but perhaps when you factor in the utensils it’s about right. my internal jury is still out on that one, but if you’re interested in a little cardboard picnic, you can be the judge and check out more from boxsal right here. thanks, suzanne
*also, congratulations to zoe samczyk, the winner of the CCE giveaway! zoe won $125 towards the conference of creative entrepreneurs, which she can use for a free day pass or towards a full weekend pass. congrats, zoe! and thank you to lauren venell at the CCE for donating this pass to one of biz ladies.

these are pretty fantastic!!
[my only "real world" concern, what about when water bottle get moisture on the outside and get the cardboard soggy?]
Same concern as Amanda, not sure how robust the cardboard would be, or what the life time value of the product would be. Wouldn’t like to keep having to constantly buy one. Nice work on the green credentials though.
I love this product! Even if it doesn’t stand up to water; how often do you really go on picnics?! I love seeing this kind of inspiring creativity! It’s refreshing!
I love the first image especially – such a great twist on the simple briefcase. Certainly makes you stand out in a crowd!
I love the “idea” of it, but not sure if I would actually use it. Would be awesome if someone would make a tupperware version of a picnic basket.
What a fantastic new way to celebrate summer! I love new ideas and new ways to spice things up. As far as water making the box soggy…there could be several simple solutions to keep that from happening.
What a fantastic gift idea also! I already have a stash of these for gifts and they are made very well.
I love all Images thanks for posting it
What a lovely idea for summer, really fresh and inspiring.
Such a clever idea- terrific design! Love it….This would be something I would consider giving as a gift and include a gift certificate to a local market or fill it with homemade gourmet treats. For myself, however, the price may be too steep!
cute idea, but it is like a candy box for a fundraiser. if you want to feel nifty maybe reuse your child’s candy fundraiser box and decorate it yourself!
