i feel like there were a few years between 2002-2004 where i was obsessively researching scandinavian homes. i looked far and wide for any images i could find and devoured them like there was no tomorrow. then i just woke up one more and said “ugh, no more!”. i tend to be like that with most things in life (bands, restaurants, tv shows on hulu) so it was no surprise that i hit my limit, but have ultimately come back around to researching scandinavian interiors again. but this time i’m looking to find less of the minimal/blond wood look and more of a traditional, sophisticated feel. so i was happy to check out simply scandinavian (ryland peters & small, april 2010) over at amy‘s house the other day. written by sara norrman, simply scandinavian is full of beautiful interiors located in denmark, finland, norway and sweden. i loved the wide range of styles in the book- there was really something for all of my different tastes and interests, and i especially loved that gorgeous chandelier below (i’ve heard it described as a wedding chandelier but couldn’t find any more info on it…?). each home is accompanied by tips for recreating the look in your home, but i found the book inspiring for more of an overall style and aesthetic- it definitely got me to think about putting down my bright colors and preppy patterns and embracing light paint and natural materials a bit more. if you’re looking for something to inspire a little spring change in your home you can check out simply scandinavian and pick up a copy ($19.77) right here. (you can also check out ryland peters & small online for more info)

That lamp can be purchased in my home town of Copenhagen, Denmark at a shop called Illums Bolighus for about $1400 USD or round about. Here’s a link…

Beautiful images. I’ll have to get hold of a copy of this!
beautiful!
upholstered box spring on castors!! brilliant.
If you live near a Kinokuniya bookstore, they carry a number of books full of pictures of Scandinavian interiors. The text of the books is usually in Japanese, but let’s face it – the pictures are all that matter.
What great style…I must get this book.
Lovely. I love how the styling is just so effortless. I would gladly move into any one of these
I love the mirror leaning against the print in photo #2. Does anyone know the curvy type used on the cover? It’s popping up everywhere …
Excuse me while I wipe away the drool. Love this style!
I LOVE the bed up on the casters!! And the two matching metal chairs. I have such a thing for metal chairs!
I wish I knew where to find that amazing typeface too, Sara…. it’s almost as amazing as the room behind it!
I love the office – it’s so open and airy. And the metal accents make it seem like you could really get down to work in there.
The typeface is Estilo Script :)

Very cool. I love the Norwegian flags. Go Norway!
I am sure IKEA used to sell something that very much looks like the Wedding Chandelier. Laying in bed reading Designsponge what a lovely way to start the day here in the UK.
this is timely, as I just checked out with this book in my Amazon cart a few days ago. Now I know better what I’m looking forward to in the mail!
I just love Scandinavian design, beautiful.
Here is a link to an auction company in Sweden that (among other things) sells crowns of the kind you are talking about: http://www.auktionskompaniet.com/items/103433-ljuskrona-allmoge-1800-tal
FOr sure many got this kind of gift when they got married, but I’m not sure it is called bridal crown. Look for the word “allmoge”+crown instead.
does anyone know the fabric (or something similar) used for in the last photo for the window treatment + upholstered cushion?
Hurrah for Norway! I’m a norwegian citizen, you know. :) Our family has a house outside of Oslo (but I live in Texas). I love the simplicity and rustic nature of Scandinavian interior design.
That Scandinavians are able to pair the impossible: clean modern minimalism with rustic elements, to me is a completely unique feat in design.
Sara is my friend! keep your eyes peeled for lots more little treats she has up her sleeve…
I am very lucky to live in the Helsinki design district of Punavuori where you can stroll from shop to shop and get the most amazing original items especially from the 50′s and 60′s.
