before & after: liz’s desk + becki’s armoire

today’s second-to-last before & after comes from liz of say yes to hoboken and baby hank. liz found this desk for $85 on craigslist, and the chair for only $15 at a flea market. determined to make them more her own style, liz stripped the desk down to get a more natural feel and recovered the chair in a sweet pink and white fabric. now at home in her office, surrounded by her favorite etsy artwork from etsy, these two bargain pieces feel right at home. thanks for sharing, liz!

last but not least is becki from artsy-crafty babe‘s beautiful armoire makeover. becki inherited a cedar armoire she’d held on to for years, but the finish needed a little love. after attempting a white-wash finish, becki felt the look was too shabby, so she decided to add a grey finish on top and add a beautiful white border detail with paint. i love the way the border gave this piece a new life- and it now fits perfectly in becki’s dining room. click here to read more about becki’s makeover.

I love the fabric Liz used on her chair and I love the new paint on the armoire. The white border is one of those great small details that really adds that extra visual pop.

What a beautiful transformation on the desk, chair and armoire. I always find it amazing when people see an object and they can turn it into something better with a few minor changes. Excellent Job.

It is so encouraging to see old furniture “upcycled”!! I do not consider myself a tree-hugger but I am concerned about how “disposable” our society has become.

I’d love to know how Liz made the top of the desk white. I have the same laminate on my dining table which I’d like to get rid of and make white instead!

surya, everyone will tell you you can’t paint laminate. it’s not true. you just have to sand like crazy and add a good 123 primer before. rub on poly on the top helps with the shine
