MET security guard collages [update: by jonathan hull]

when i was publishing comments yesterday i noticed one from lara, who suggested i check out this site that features a huge collection of collages from a former security guard at the metropolitan museum of art. made from fine art auction catalogs, each collage is an absolute joy to look at. they reminded me of the collages i would laminate onto my high school homework folders (though mine also included pictures of keanu reeves and eddie vedder) using brochures from class field trips to museums in washington d.c. i’ve always had a soft spot for collage so these were a real treat to see and seemed like the perfect way to kick off the day. click here to check out the full collection online. thanks to lara for the tip!

[update! lara sent along information on the artist, whose name is jonathan hull! jonathan is a high school teacher and writer living in nyc, and previous worked as a museum security guard and book critic. you can contact jonathan about his collages via email right here. thanks, lara!]

Hi Grace,
I read your blog every day….love it. I love these collages, but it didn’t seem that there was a way to purchase them from the link. Do you have any further information? Thank you so much!

What a wonderful entry. I love that security guards used the museum’s catalogs in such a creative way. What fun.

Thanks for this! It’s very inspiring. They are little vignettes into a strange space of psychology, then again they are simple ditties and very pretty!
