over this past weekend i spent as much time as possible doting on my new begonia, hellebore, and oxalis plants, trying to get them through this serious sunlight drought we’re having right now. while i’m really loving my larger plants, i’m still nursing a major obsession with miniature plants: babys tears, snow roses, and geraniums. so when i was building today’s under $100 table lamp guide i was immediately tempted by this bell jar table lamp from west elm. though its $149 price tag put it above the budget of today’s roundup, i couldn’t resist posting it this morning, as i’m dying to use it as an informal terrarium for some of my miniature plants. i’m wondering if the heat from the bulb will be too hot, but i think it might be worth a shot, especially considering how easy it would be to move a tiny potted plant in and out of the lamp base. if you’re looking to start a mini lamp garden like i am click here to check out the bell jar lamp at west elm.

that is FREAKIN’ amazing. LOVE IT! i love bells jars.. and to make it a lamp.. genious! people are genious.
Very lovely. I’m especially fond of the silver ballet flats.
You could put a tiny cactus under it…they grow slow and love the heat.
J’adore !! it’s a really good idea !
Love it! If you’re looking for a bargain, the big West Elm store in downtown Washington, DC is going out of business and having ridiculous sales, which will bring quite a few goodies down into the $100 and under price range.
just use a CFL bulb and the heat wouldn’t be an issue…
I love this lamp, but where is the electric cord? It seems like it would ruin the look if there was an ugly cord running down the back of the clear glass…
That lamp is fantastic. I love white rooms so much, minimalistic simplicity at its best…
I love it!!
Agree with Crystal, I’m wondering about the cord?
Do plants in bell jars get enough air?
I LOVE this lamp!!!! I just put it on my wishlist a few weeks ago. I would love yo have an all-white room as well…I have a corner in my apartment currently…ha
Target currently has large glass lamps like this one in their stores. Not bell jars, but I would imagine you could achieve the same effect with this less expensive option.
gorgeous! the possibilities are endless. definitely a new addition to my wishlist.
Same as Crystal and Jenny … love it but, where IS the cord? My sister has a similar beautiful lamp, but the stupid cord hanging from the socket wrecks it. Mind you … I guess the lamp would be even stupider if it DIDN’T have a cord.
i think my new house wants this lamp. great find grace! :)
LOVE that desk. Where did you get it? Please email me!!
i’ve been glancing at this post every so often. love it! wish they would be available in australia. i would eat porridge for months to save up for it.
Please tell me you’re using energy saving bulbs? There’s no excuse for using a regular heat-generating lightbulb here, especially since the bulb is not visible.
cool idea… also love the all white theme!
Kitan, I agree with you about the energy saving bulbs, but this is a West Elm photo – not Grace’s personal image – so I guess there’s no way to know.
The lamp is so gorgeous – it hadn’t even occurred to me to wonder about the cord, but that’s such a good point.
Your hellebore should be just fine with filtered light.
I am dying to know where you got that table/vanity too!! please tell me your secret! I would love to get it for my dorm
