before & after: nia’s desk + settee

i have a soft soft for worn wood painted in robin’s egg blue. one of the first antique pieces of furniture i ever really loved belonged to my grandmother and it was an old blue table that was stashed somewhere down in her basement. for some reason that color really stuck with me, so when i saw this beautiful desk makeover from nia at summerland style i was immediately transported back to that piece. nia recently made over her desk nook- and an adorable settee and was kind enough to send both of them over today. first up, nia’s desk nook (details below):

nia’s husband crafted a beautiful desk using reclaimed wood from their friends’ remodel of a 100 year old home. the new desk fit the nook perfectly!

robin’s egg blue paint was used to paint the desk, and the back shelves were lined in vintage wallpaper. a $12 brass chandelier (painted blue) was added to bring more light to the space- completing nia’s stylish office makeover.

nia found this beautiful settee in an unexpected place- a house occupied by a group of college guys. her craigslist score was in need of a new look, but had a steel frame, so nia ended up HAND-STITCHING THE ENTIRE PIECE! a piece of accent fabric from samantha hahn was used to give the settee extra detail and it now lives inside a boutique where customers can rest their heels and take a break from shopping. thanks so much to nia for sharing her makeovers with us!

That desk is so perfect! I would love to have a nook like that. Sigh. Why don’t any of my friends have wood from their old barn or other dwelling that I can reclaim? :)

What brand/color of spray paint did you use for the chandelier? It looks great!

Amaris

Where did you find the vintage wallpaper? I love it!!!

summerland

The spray paint for the chandelier is Rustoleum’s American Accents in Lagoon. And the vintage wallpaper was part of a stash that showed up at our salvage center the ReStore here in Bellingham, WA. I’m currently brainstorming other projects for the wallpaper and hope to add them to my Etsy shop soon.

I love the splash of pink of the settee after the makeover. Handstitch the entire piece, that’s amazing work!

Hand-stitched?! HAND-STITCHED?!?! To the FRAME!? Unbelievable! It looks great!

I’m in love with that little nook. If my desk were that amazing blue color I’m sure I’d get a lot more of my work done!

I always get nervous when I see reclaimed wood painted but that color blue is one of my favorites. Once I saw the rest of Nia’s house via the link provided it made even more sense. Your house is also amazing great whimsy and looks very comfortable. Both pieces look great there.

It’s so funny because I saw this sofa in the store pictured above and thought, “Well, this looks oddly familiar.” When I later realized it was from D.S., it kind of felt like bumping into a celebrity ;)
