before & after: camilla’s room + meredith’s chandelier

camila of high-heeled foot in the door recently decided to change careers to pursue a job in design and if this room makeover is any indication, it looks like she made the right choice. camilla recently transformed her guest bedroom into a serene blue and yellow hangout and i think a lot of us would be happy to be a guest staying in here. you can read more about the transformation process right here. thanks, camila!

[have a before & after you'd like to share on d*s? just shoot me an email right here with your images (low res, please).]

meridith of smittybaby made over this large chandelier (a budget-friendly craigslist find) with a few cans of red spray paint. sometimes a painting job can really bring new life to a piece and i love that meridith chose a great red hue over slightly more predictable white or black. thanks for sharing, meridith!

I love all the red chandeliers that are showing up on D*S in the Sneak Peeks and Before & Afters. They are statement making without being too showy or distracting.

Love the room makeover! Nice how she kept the general look/color scheme but freshened it all up.

The best thing I like about this is that they didn’t repaint the room. They worked with what they had.

I love painted chandelier’s!!! I painted several for my wedding reception and hung them from the trees outside. It’s such a great way to add color!

Jennifer

Love love love the chandelier! Can you share how it was painted? Just sprayed right over the awful shiny brass? Or was it treated first in any way? What kind of paint was used? Thanks for the inspiration!

Camila

So happy that everyone is enjoying my guest room!

I wanted to show how with a couple of changes you can keep your paint color and make a dramatic difference!

I did this to a brass chandelier – painted it gloss black {tip: use appliance spray paint for great adhesion!} and then added a slew of crystals in both clear & black. Such an easy way to get a swanky look!

That chandelier is stunning!!! If I had one, I would try and copy it. I have a nice three-tiered galvanised steel chandelier in my kitchen *thinks*… am just too sad to irrevocably paint over the silver steel… Great before and afters!!!!

I used a spray primer first. It only took one can. Then, it took three cans of red to get a good finish.

My husband suggested round bulbs, too.

The rug was actually an Urban Outfitters find.

I found it months ago so I can’t find it online.

It was originally $68, but I got it for $9.99 during one of their sales.

Love the blue room. And the striped curtains are AWESOME! I’m definitely on the spray painted chandelier bandwagon.
