john murphy frames

happy friday! while grace is at the altitude design summit in salt lake city, i’ve been fawning over these hand-cast resin frames from john murphy. here at design*sponge, we’ve been huge fans of john murphy’s work for a few years now. (see john’s recent sneak peek here!) and one of the main attractions, for me, has always been those brightly colored frames! so i’m thrilled that john is finally selling the frames on his site! honestly, i can think of so many things that i would love to see surrounded by a pop of color! (now if i could only get my photographs to turn out as well as john’s, i’d be set!)   -amy a.

(p.s. even though grace is in salt lake city, we still have a full day over here with “small measures” and an “in the kichen” coming right up!)

I love these! I personally buy vintage frames similar to these from estate sales and paint them myself.

For VERY similar, more budget friendly frames like these you can get them at Home Goods or Tuesday Morning in different sizes & colors. Sometimes even Ross, TJ Maxx or Marshalls has them also.

These are really pretty, but pricey. Like Christy mentioned, I bought a hot pink frame exactly like these at TJ Maxx for $7.99, they have a ton of colors. It was called ‘Hot Goth,’ which I thought was hilarious! I also bought two coordinating smaller frames.

These are lovely. I’ve been drooling over the Harry Allen frame, which is similar to these, for months. I’m glad to find a more budget-friendly alternative!

I agree with the two other ladies. I have 3 that look almost exactly the same (orange, hot pink, purple) from Marshalls for $7 each… they are put together fairly well too.

So pretty! This has DIY written alllll over it. If you didn’t like the colors, or the price, you could probably find frames and paint them yourself.

I met John this summer at the Renegade Craft Fair in Bklyn. I loved his frames but they were not currently available on his website. How fantastic to see they are accessible to all. Most importantly, I remember John as a very cordial man.

Thanks guys! I’m glad you like them. And thanks D*S for the post :) As for the cost of the frames, it’s always more expensive for small studios like myself to manufacture something. Large stores like TJMaxx or Marshalls have completely different business models and have enormous buying / negotiating power with designers, manufacturers and other retail stores. Positioning themselves in some cases to sell items even below cost. Just sayin’ :)

Wow, these frames are amazing!! I love the pop of color that these frames will add to any room. Thanks for sharing!!

Samantha

Oooh I love flat-coloured frames like these! I have a few myself. I’m gonna go check out his shop :)
