I'm going to make some of these as display stands for my boutique. Varathane and shellac are both supposed to be food-safe finishes. Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully so it cures fully. Dishwasher safe is tough to get without doing a fired ceramic glaze. Love the cake stands — so cute!
