arjowiggins papers already blew my mind with this amazing photoshoot, so i immediately got excited when i saw a new email from them in my inbox. arjowiggins collaborated with french designer matthieu missian to create this paper cut-out sculpture of a tree in honor of the united nations climate change conference. working with the world land trust, arjowiggins recently committed to protect one hectare of brazilian rainforest as part of their commitment to address climate change. for details on this project and the story of this paper company trying to balance their production and preserving forests, click here.

in non-paper news, i’m loving these new pieces from ladies & gentlemen in seattle. “chalk it to me” is a series of ceramic animal pals with a chalkboard coating that are “ready to be adorned by their adoptive parents.” i personally love the piggy bank (maybe with chalk reminders of what you’re saving up for?) but you can also choose from a horse and over-sized rabbit, each of which comes with a pair of sharpened chalk sticks.

last but not least, the mega doily below was inspired by vintage doilies. this full-sized area rug was hand crocheted by jean lee of ladies & gentleman and you can order custom rugs to fit your specific space by request. want more info or to place an order? click here for more info.

I have been on Etsy all morning looking for gifts for my sisters with great success, of course!

As far as my husband, I’d love to give him “Chalk it to me” piggy bank so that he always knew what was on my mind finance wise. Should I deign do it?

I love the rug! I may have to make something similar for my apartment. I wonder what size crochet hook you’d have to use? Z?

P-wan

I don’t think they used a crochet hook for the mega-doily. If you go to the website, there are pictures which make it look like somebody is pulling the loops by hand!!

I’m so happy to see some familiar seattle peeps here! i ♥ mega doily!

Heather

Where do you get such soft looking cotton rope/cord for that giant floor doily?

Laura

Lovelovelove the chalking animals! What an awesome idea! Also have saved the rug to my ideas folder! I am certain that you can get the soft rope/cord at any sort of craft store (I am thinking of Hobby Lobby). I already have a huge crochet hook that I bought at Wal-Mart that will do perfectly!

I don’t care for the doily, but I am entirely captivated by those lovely feet.

Lisa: it was a total pleasure to see your beautiful home!

p-wan: yes you’re right, I just use my hands to crochet it! just replace the hook with my hand. easy! except you gotta make sure to take breaks!

forten: ha ha. I feel funny that my feet is appearing all over the web….but those are not for sale. :D

everyone: THANK YOU!! (^. ^)

I created a rug doily much like this one. It’s created using my grandmother favorite doily patten. It is heading to NH to it’s place of honor next to my mom’s bed soon as I get more rope . I’m almost done ~ was fun

Daniela

What a labor of love! Would be such a wonderful homage to my grandmother. How thick is the rope? Also, should it be braided, as opposed to 3-strand? Any specifications on rope type and suggestions for online suppliers would be much appreciated. Thx!
