I have to agree and say that Breakfast at Tiffany's didn't do very much for me. My pick is Roman Holiday, too. Gregory Peck, yes! Also love both styles of luggage you've featured.

This is one of my favorite "Living in..." posts. And I never liked Breakfast at Tiffany's; rather, Roman Holiday does it for me. :)

So happy to find your lovely blog! Oddly, I found it while researching Audrey Hepburn for my 4th grade daughter's biography report. Breakfast at Tiffany's! I'm still a sucker for this movie so I totally disagree, and haven't bothered to read all the other comments to hear the chorus of others who are with MOI! As I light-hearted stylish movie it's captivating. On another level, you really should read Capote's gritty novella. It really depicts the desperate damaged soul from an abusive home who's only love (for her semi-retarded brother) is used against her as her creepy hillbilly ex husband tries to convince her to come back. It becomes about sacrificing her soul to protect the one she loves. (Though they try to make the husband character sympathetic in the movie). It's a story of a someone torn between love, fear, shame, duty, self-sacrifice and self-destruction. Since I was young girl I loved watching the movie for I it's obvious stylishness and the real grittiness I knew was being glossed over with that 1960's lacquer. I felt especially cool that I knew what was REALLY going on with this young prostitute. But watching it last week with my 10 year-old daughter, I couldn't help but think of all the secretly dysfunctional adults I know who were really just damaged children. And of all the very deep pain Hepburn herself had suffered over the course of her life. On a stupid silly romantic level, I love that "Fred" won't let go of her. I love a crazy, unconditionally smitten guy, even against the backdrop of 60's corniness. Plus, It just doesn't get much more stylish than the party scene. (The antics of the actors was all fueled by real champagne that Blake Edwards served the cast and shot over two days.) Yep, still a sucker for this movie....But, I will definitely watch Two for the Road. Reading the story (again, while helping my daughter research her project), I just knew I'd love it. Her own marriage of 12 years was unravelling at this point. I love complex love stories. But as a married woman of 16 years it could either inspire or depress me. I guess that's what good movies do. ;)

I'm also blogging about Audrey (and not just here on yours :) so I might backlink to this fantastic post. Love your sensibility. Can't wait to check out your archive.

I absolutely adore this movie! One of my absolute favorites, the kind that I watch on a sick day, or Valentine's Day, and sigh about. I think the whole style of the film is perfectly lovely.
And I have to admit that out of all of the Audrey movies out there, Breakfast at Tiffany's is pretty darn close to the bottom.
Wonderful post!
